2021.10.27 18:34 unpoplrI am 22 years old, make $15,000/yr, live in northern Connecticut, work as a cashier, and I spent some of my money this week on Glossier

TW: I had a foot surgery that is discussed in light detail.
Section One: Assets and Debt
Net worth: -$19,572.74
Assets: $4,222.26
Liabilities: $23,795 (Student loans)
Savings account balance: $48.37 (I definitely need to work on this)
Checking account balance $4,173.89
Credit card debt (and how you accumulated it): $0, I put the majority of my daily spending on my credit cards and pay them off in full each month.
Student loan debt (for what degree): $23,795 for a Computer Science degree, mostly from living on campus sophomore and junior year.
Anything else that's applicable to you: $172.98 from one stock that came for free from Robinhood, not included in my assets.
Section Two: Income
Income Progression: Because I don't have a degree, I have been working minimum wage jobs. I've been working as a cashier at a local grocery store for a little over two years, and the only wage increases I've gotten are from when the state minimum wage increased. Right now I believe it is currently $13/hour.
Main Job Monthly Take Home:
While school is in session, I make $885/month after taxes.
Side Gig Monthly Take Home
I am starting a small tutoring gig for about $25/hour three days a week, as you will see in my diary. I didn't start it the week of my diary so it is not included in anything above.
Any Other Monthly Income Here
None
Section Three: Expenses
Rent / Mortgage / HOA fees: I live with my father and his girlfriend so I do not pay rent.
Debt payments (please break this down individually and specify if you're paying above the minimum): I pay the full balance on my credit cards every month. I am not making any payments on my student loans because either I am still in in-school deferment or they are part of the student loan payment freeze.
Donations (please specify if monthly or annual): I volunteer about 16 hours or more a month at my university's LGBT center.
Wifi/Cable/Landline: my dad pays for this
Cellphone: $50/month, I am part of a family plan with my dad and Zelle him this amount for my share.
Subscriptions (Netflix, HBO Max, Spotify/Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Apple TV+, Philo): $81.42/month
Gym membership: I am on a free trial of Apple Fitness+ and my regular gym membership ended on Labor day.
Car payment / insurance: $50/month, I Zelle my dad for my share of the car insurance every month.
Regular therapy: I used to attend weekly group therapy over a zoom-like app that cost about $5/session with insurance, but I don't have time for this anymore because of school. This leave from regular therapy was approved by my therapist and I now only use my mental health office for medication refills.
Day 1, Monday
I don’t hear my alarm going off and wake up an hour and a half late. My friend P who I volunteer for texts me and asks if I want to get Dunkin’ with her when I come to school, to which I say yes. I eat an English muffin with strawberry cream cheese, wash my face, put on sunscreen, get dressed, and head out the door. I arrive at school and head to the LGBT center where P is, and we walk to the Dunkin’ across from our university while I catch her up on what happened over the weekend. I place my order first for a medium caramel iced coffee with cream ($3.11, from a prepaid card) and she places her order. She wants oat milk with her iced coffee but they are out, so she tries coconut milk.
We walk back to the LGBT center and she asks me to volunteer since she has no one else in until 2. Volunteering basically consists of answering the phone which never rings, answering questions for people who come in, helping out when needed and being someone to talk to and get resources from. Someone in my project group discord informs us that my professor has graded our midterms. I check the grade and sure enough, I failed. I expected to fail because I definitely didn’t study enough, and thankfully I’m still passing the class. P and I talk about our amazing doctor and a trans woman who was sitting in our lounge overhears and comes into my friend’s office and wants their information because she wants to start HRT and her initial consult somewhere else didn’t go well. Afterwards, she talks to me about being trans and explains to me what an egg is in terms of trans people. She goes to class and my other friend R who I’m working on another group project with comes in and helps me work on our project proposal. I get stumped on what to talk about for the required two pages, and the initial part that I did the day before was only half a page. We make it work and hand it in.
I attend my first class with R and afterwards eat the lunch I brought, which is a ham sandwich, a fruit cup, and little bites muffins. I buy a snack to go with it, three chicken tenders ($4.89). After eating lunch while watching an episode of Friends, I head to my next class an hour early and play around on my phone. I have my last two classes back to back, and leave after 7. I don’t feel like eating pasta for the fourth day in a row, so I go to a Puerto Rican restaurant and get a barbecue chicken rice bowl with a pernil empanada ($20.10 with tip). I come home, eat half of the rice bowl and the empanada, and meet with my project partners from my last class over Discord at 9. We’re making a Discord bot but can’t get it to display the setup command. We work on it for over two hours before calling it a night. I get dressed for bed and fall asleep watching The Late Show until my dad wakes me up at 12:30 and tells me to go to bed.
Daily total: $28.10
Day 2, Tuesday
I wake up on time, eat breakfast and do a 20 minute HIIT workout on Apple Fitness+ before getting ready for the day. I barely attempt the burpee challenges done after each of the three sets. I get ready, make my iced coffee (just bottled iced coffee with creamer) and get dressed and leave for school. I am asked by P to volunteer at the LGBT center again since her morning student worker can’t make it today. I read Into the Gloss articles while she paints a box rainbow colors for a clothing drive. (The LGBT center has a closet of gently used clothes that people in need can take.) P asks me if I miss living on campus, to which I reply that I miss it a little bit but prefer living at home rather than what is basically a box. Our other friend M comes in and talks to her for a bit, and I head off to class.
I have an appointment with a podiatrist for foot pain I’ve been experiencing in the past and go there after my only class of the day. I get to the office about a half hour early. I have the filled out intake form and give it to the office worker, who takes it, scans my license and insurance card, and then allows me to wait in the waiting room. She calls me over and asks me if I have another insurance card, which I don’t have. She then asks me to pull up another card on my phone. I download my health insurance company’s app and pull up my card, which has an entirely different number on it. I give it to her and she acknowledges that this is what I need. Soon afterwards she leads me to an exam room and tells me to take off my shoes and socks and sit on the exam chair. She then comes back and hands me a printed copy of my insurance card screenshot that I emailed her, and has included a makeshift paper insurance card, which I am very grateful for. A nurse comes in and asks about my foot pain, and notes it for the doctor to look at. The doctor comes in, examines it, and concludes that I have an ingrown toenail and offers to cut it off. I give her the go ahead and she puts numbing shots in my toe, which were pretty painful going in but afterwards leads me to not feel anything happening to my foot as she cuts part of my toenail off. She finishes the surgery with minimal bleeding and wraps my foot. I’m given aftercare instructions that tell me to soak my toe in salt water opposite from when I bathe and to put Neosporin and a bandaid on it for about a week.
I go to the grocery store that I work at and get the Neosporin, earwax remover drops, and miracle whip ($18.66). I go home, eat a very late lunch (the rest of my chicken rice bowl), and go to work on my homework due that night. My dad comes in from outside and said that he had been yelling my name, which I didn’t hear because I had music playing in my room. He complains that he’s been doing a lot of work and has been alone for most of the day, to which I remind him that I’ve been at an appointment and had homework to do. He’s also broken a glass dish and I help him sweep that up and pick up shards. We eat dinner and later my dad finds out that he’s broken his phone. Two thirds of his screen are white. He uses my phone to call the phone company and I leave him to it. About an hour and a half later he noticed that his phone got put in airplane mode, and complains that he wants it out of airplane mode. I tell him it wouldn’t make much of a difference seeing as he can’t use most of his screen, and I can’t get it out of airplane mode without tapping on an option that I can’t see.
My mom calls me and gives me more details on the tutoring opportunity she texted me about earlier and said she wanted to know if I could help tutor an eight year old girl from her nail salon with basic spelling, English, and math and said she’d negotiate about $40/hour for one hour three days a week. I gladly say yes and offer to bring my iPad and scratch paper to help her out. I could definitely use the extra money. I figure out that my mom has been talking to me for over 10 minutes and tune into the premiere of Queens just in time. It’s a decent show with some interesting drama going on and it seems like it’ll become my Tuesday night treat. I fall asleep watching Sex Education (this is a bad habit of mine) and head to bed at 1:30.
Daily total: $18.66
Day 3, Wednesday
I wake up an hour past my alarm. I eat breakfast and do a 10 minute Pilates workout on Apple Fitness+. It’s my first time doing Pilates and overall it’s pretty decent, just lots of stretching that I barely manage to do (I’m not that flexible). I get ready, make my iced coffee, and head to school. My schedule is the same as it was on Monday, three classes with an hour and a half break after my first class. P at the LGBT center asks about the sexual violence training email that everyone got yesterday and I tell her I planned on doing it later. She encourages me to just get it done now while I have free time and she says she can help me with it. I open it up and notice it’s a different training: bystander training. I take the test outright anyway and it’s only five questions. I get one question wrong but I still pass and leave the videos to play in the background while I check social media. The trainings basically go over things that for the most part are common sense, and once you’ve seen the first one freshman year you’re typically given slightly shorter refreshers that normally go over the same things.
I do homework after and notice that there’s two people at the door. P posted on the center’s Instagram story that she’s giving away pronoun pins, and two girls stopped by to get some and pick some up for a friend. I also find out that today is international pronoun day! As someone who uses two sets of pronouns and knows lots of people who use various pronouns, I am happy such a day exists. The girls that stop by and I are put on the center’s Instagram story. I text R, who I have three classes with, if she did the homework I’m having a hard time with and she tells me she’s also having a hard time and won’t be in class today because she’s being held up at the doctor. I go to my first class, making sure to take decent notes. I then eat lunch (the same lunch I brought Monday) and buy a strawberry mango smoothie and mozzarella sticks to go with it ($9.67). I visit the LGBT center again to say hi to another friend and then head to class. In my second class we have a midterm, and the review is a 244 slide PowerPoint. My professor thankfully pushes the date of the midterm to next Wednesday instead of Monday. It’s all online, but we have to take it in class.
I notice that Glossier has released their cookie butter balm dotcom and decide to buy it along with two other balm dotcoms, cherry and rose, in the trio set ($31.92). I’m fully aware that it’s just fancy Vaseline but it’s done wonders for my lips and the packaging is really cute. After class I go to Pride club, where someone had a presentation about alternative gender identities. I then order dinner at my school’s cafeteria, a chicken sub combo with cookies and a drink ($8.58). I attend tea club for the first time and it’s pretty nice. It’s basically an opportunity for people to talk about their week and socialize while drinking an assortment of tea. I leave a half hour early because I know my dad is expecting me home by 9. I run into the cute guy who always comes to Pride club and we walk outside together. I stop short of asking for his number though (I’m not even sure if he’s single and we barely know each other).
I go home and notice that I got my packages from last week, one from Glossier (the green hoodie) and one from Fabletics (two pairs of leggings). My dad got his replacement phone and wanted me to help him set it up, which I try to do but soon realize it would be bad to set it up without having his broken phone nearby to plug it in. He told me he went to the carrier store earlier and they told him he could bring both phones and they would try to transfer the stuff from his broken phone to his replacement phone. I hope they can fully transfer his content. He asks me if it’s possible to transfer his WhatsApp messages and I ask him if he backed everything up to the cloud, and he doesn’t know. I don’t even think he knows his Google account password, which he’ll need to download apps. I go to try on the hoodie and it’s a little tight, and notice on the label that I’ve been sent a small instead of an XL. I’m surprised I can still fit the hoodie but I email the GTeam anyway to see if there’s anything they can do. I watch the season finale of American Horror Story, and The Late Show. I head to bed at 12:35.
Daily total: $50.17
Day 4, Thursday
I wake up on time and eat breakfast, and do a 20 minute dance workout on Apple Fitness+. I can’t follow some of the moves the trainer is doing or just end up doing them incorrectly, and this just reminds me that my dream of becoming a pop star or backup dancer is probably not gonna work. My dad asks me about the packages I got last night, and I tell him about the hoodie and leggings. He complains that I have money to spend on clothes but can’t send him the money I agreed to send him every month for my half of the phone plan and car insurance starting two months ago. He hasn’t made it very clear how he wants the money or been very persistent about getting it. I tell him I’ll deal with it later. I leave at 10 and head to the LGBT center, but it’s closed. I text P and find out she’s not in today. Oh well. It gives me time to start preparing for my presentation next month.
I go to a building with an array of chairs next to four sets of TVs and open my computer to the paper I have to present to take notes. GTeam gets back to me and is sending me a replacement hoodie in the size I ordered even though on the site it’s sold out. I then head to class and R is there already. We catch up and prepare for the lecture. It’s midterm review day and this is the same professor with that 244 slide review in our other class. Thankfully this review is only 20 slides. We go over that and some of the new slides, and then class is over. I get lunch, a crispy chicken sandwich combo with a fruit cup and iced tea ($8.68) and watch an episode of Friends. I head home and run into traffic, expected for leaving at the beginning of rush hour.
My dad has his newly setup replacement phone and was told the phone store couldn’t transfer more data out of his old phone because it can’t be unlocked. I notice that my friend from college has reopened their Etsy store and after texting them about the color of a scrunchie they sell, I buy a scrunchie, headband, and keychain ($25.52). I take a nap for about an hour and a half and then my dad wakes me up to eat dinner, baked chicken with mixed vegetables. I wash clothes and ask my dad how much money he wants for the phone plan we share and the car insurance. He wants $50 for each thing each month, for a total of $200 for two months. I get his bank account setup on his phone and send him the money ($200). I listen to my release radar and catch the last five minutes of Grey’s Anatomy. I notice something interesting happens and text my friend who’s a fan, but she texts back that she’s drunk at a party. I watch Big Sky, The Late Show, and go to bed at 12:35.
Daily total: $234.20
Day 5, Friday
I wake up 15 minutes past my alarm. I head downstairs to eat breakfast and get ready for work. I am shopping grocery pickup orders for other people, like I do every weekend. I’m able to find everything for the first order without any issues, which is unusual. This person orders every weekend and normally there’s always at least one thing (typically the Gatorade or Powerade) that I can’t find and that they try to force me to replace with another type we don’t have. I take a look at the upcoming orders and I have four more, with one having 81 individual items. I’m not too jazzed for that one at all. I finish the 81 item order and pause the shopping app for a 20 minute break before my fifth order. This break is actually a 15 minute paid break that I clock out for, but I use the extra five minutes to give the iPod touch I use for shopping to someone at guest services and grab lunch.
It’s $5 sushi Friday at the sushi counter, so I get a crispy tuna roll for lunch ($5). I finish my fifth order and my coworker S working self checkout notices I’m not shopping anymore and asks me to cover her so she can use the bathroom. I do that and then go bag for my other coworker, B, who laughs when I burp. My coworker M thinks I’m “spicy” today, which is her code word for moody. I was just a little bothered when I was at the middle of checkout for an order earlier and was paged to guest services to run out my first order. My mom texts me and said she settled on $25 an hour for my tutoring job starting next week, which isn’t as good as what she originally said but is more than my state’s minimum wage that I get paid at work. She says I can meet the girl I’m tutoring and her mother after work, who are at the nail salon across from my job.
I end work at 3 and remember that I have to get my grandfather a gift for his birthday party tomorrow, so I get a birthday card, a $25 general gift card with an activation fee, a set of blank rainbow stationery cards and a special magazine from Entertainment Weekly about The Office for me, and $10 in cashback for the cash bar tomorrow ($65.39). I go home to change, and head back out to the nail salon. I see the mother of the girl I’m tutoring right as she’s doing someone’s nails, and introduce myself. The girl I’m tutoring is on the couch in the waiting area, playing with her iPad. She shows me some games on it and I ask her about her day and what she’s learning in school. She also can’t tell what gender I am and because of my locs that are about three inches long and my feminine voice, she assumes I’m a girl. She comments that I sound and look like a girl, and that makes me uncomfortable but I brush it off. I use two sets of pronouns because over the pandemic I found that I don’t feel incredibly connected to my male identity and discovered that I’m non-binary but many people who meet me for the first time assume I’m a girl.
We say goodbye after I found that I got the information I needed and I walk to the Dunkin’ next door, which is locked but has hours on the front door that say they close in about an hour. I hop in my car and go to the drive thru, and order a peach refresher ($3.25). I go home and prepare for my interview with my university’s radio station, done over Google Meet. I was going to cancel because I don’t think I can find the time to host a radio show anymore, but I decide to stick with it. The interview goes well and I email the training director my availability as requested, but the possible times he emails back for training don’t work for me. I take a nap and my dad’s girlfriend’s daughter wakes me up and tells me they brought dinner, pepperoni pizza with a Stromboli. I’m glad they did because I was heavily considering going to buy dinner, since there’s nothing to eat at home. I watch some YouTube videos and the new episode of The Morning Show. While watching The Morning Show, I apply for the Apple Card (very ironic, I know). I’ve been turned down in the past for having a high debt to income ratio because of my student loans, and assumed the same thing would happen for the third time since that’s still the case. Surprisingly, I’m approved for a $1500 credit line and given their highest APR, but I always pay my cards off in full. I accept the offer and get the physical card shipped to my house. I watch more YouTube videos and go to bed at 12:30.
Daily total: $73.64
Day 6, Saturday
My alarm wakes me up at 8, but I go back to bed. I have the day off from work because I’m going to my Granddad’s birthday party later. This is the first day I’ve had off from school or work since Labor Day. I know I’m not going to get anything done today so I listen to music and watch the latest episode of Our Kind of People. My dad intercepts my glossier package that I ordered on Wednesday and complains that I could buy lip balm from the store instead of getting it online. I then get changed and bring black jeans, a white dress shirt, and a blazer along with my makeup bag in a tote. I’m wearing leggings with a black and white hoodie, and my dad points out that my pockets are a little sheer. I remind him that no one will see this outfit except my mom and my stepfather, and leave for my mom’s house about 25 minutes away.
My mom told me before I left to get lunch, so I stop by McDonald’s to get a quarter pounder meal ($10.51). I also need some new face cleanser and have forgotten that my eyebrow makeup is in a bag at home that I didn’t bring, so I stop by Walgreens to get cleanser, eyebrow pomade, and sunscreen that hopefully won’t give my legs a white cast ($41.44). My mom calls me while I’m at Walgreens to ask where I am and I tell her I’m up the street. I get to her house where she answers the door in a bathrobe, and she tells me to eat and get changed. I get changed and put on some makeup, which consists of concealer, bronzer, light eyeshadow, and the eyebrow pomade. My mom looks at my makeup and almost instantaneously starts wiping at my eyebrows, commenting that they’re too dark. Once she’s taken off about half of what I’ve spent two minutes putting on, she gets dressed herself. We leave for the hotel ballroom the party is at, and my mom says that they put a happy birthday banner on the digital billboard near the hotel. She finds a good place to take pictures of it and we start putting the raffle gifts on the dolly to bring them to the second floor. My mom, my aunt and I help set up and the doors open after 5.
We eat dinner which was a choice between chicken or fish. I chose the chicken, and it is stuffed chicken with cranberry sauce. My other aunt says it reminds her of thanksgiving, and I agree. I buy a glass of rosé ($10 with tip), and my cousins drink with me for the first time after one of them buys me a screwdriver. It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other, and they didn’t even know I was 22. I win a $5 Dunkin’ gift card from the raffle, which I’ll probably use next week to buy myself a coffee. Overall the party was a fun night filled with singing, music, and reflections from the family. After the party ends and most people leave, only the family is left. They have a long conversation about what happened at the party and about some of the drama that happened last year with my granddad. However, I am drained and don’t add anything to the conversation. My phone is about to die, and I still have to drive myself home. At that point I wish I had drove myself to the hotel because I would have left an hour ago. I get back to my mom’s house and change into my leggings and hoodie so I can drive home comfortably. I arrive at home and my dad asks if I’m going to bed, to which I say no. Thinking back on it, I should have. I take an hour long nap in front of the TV in the office, and because I’m so tired I take an even longer nap after that and wake up at 3am. I sleep through almost the entirety of SNL and head to bed after I wake up, accidentally waking my dad up when I go back downstairs and remember to take my night meds.
Daily total: $61.95
Day 7, Sunday
I got much better sleep on the couch in the office than my bed. I go downstairs to eat breakfast and notice that I’m the only one awake. This is a little unusual because my dad is definitely a morning person and normally makes eggs for breakfast on Sunday mornings. I settle for my English muffin with strawberry cream cheese and get dressed for work. I go to Dunkin’ and I see the drive thru line is almost filled to the street. Inside isn’t much better, and because I arrive there at 8:52 and my shift at work starts at 9, I go to the grocery store and get a Coke ($2.27). My supervisor hands me the shopping iPod before I even clock in, and I don’t acknowledge it until I do.
I have four orders today, and one of them has 61 individual things. When I get to that order, 9 of the items are multipacks of bottled water, four of which are from the sale this week. I saw the sale on the weekly ad that came to my house on Friday and was worried that someone would want at least three of them in a pickup order, and that’s exactly what happened. I have to put the water in a separate cart from the rest of this person’s groceries. I take my break at 12:10 and get boneless barbecue wings for lunch that are a little dry and overly crunchy ($6.38). I run out the large order outside when I come back, and my supervisor brings one of the two carts outside with me and leaves me to put everything in this lady’s trunk by myself. As expected, the lady sits in her car with her kids and does not help me. I am done with shopping for the day and go to self checkout to gossip with my favorite coworker, N. N tells me that she was working yesterday and saw one of the minors take his shoes off and put his bare feet on the mat that doesn’t get cleaned, which I find disgusting. He’s also painted his fingernails black, which N doesn’t like.
I bag for the rest of my shift and occasionally open on the leftover register when it starts to get busy. Near the end of my shift I’m called twice to help bag for two people on other registers, and notice N and my department manager are being cursed out by two angry customers. I ask N about it when I clock out and she tells me it’s because they didn’t want to pay for the paper bags that we charge for. She jokes that they don’t want to catch her in the parking lot because she’ll throw down on them. The ironic thing about it is that they were Instacart shoppers who wouldn’t be paying for the bags anyway because they have a payment card they use to pay for the orders they shop for and that cost is passed on to the customer. Oh well.
I do a tiny bit of shopping, getting my black bottled iced coffee with two two-liter sodas that are only $1 each this week and don’t have what would normally be a stipulation that you have to buy a certain amount to make them the cheaper price ($6.72). I realize that I don’t have enough gas for the week and go to get some, but the price of gas has went up by about $0.20 since last week. I fill up my car ($45.66) and head home. I take a nap and my dad’s girlfriend’s daughter wakes me up to let me know dinner is ready. We’re having leftover KFC. I watch SNL clips that I missed the day before and meet with my project group over Discord at 9. I tell them that I’m not really sure of what to do next and they give me a suggestion, and I watch them resolve merge conflicts with our code. I am very tired after two hours of observation and leave them at 11. I watch the premiere of the final season of Insecure and some YouTube videos, and go to bed at 12:30.
Daily total: $61.03
Expense totals:
Food + Drink: $89.16
Fun / Entertainment: $10
Home + Health: $18.66
Clothes + Beauty: $98.88
Transport: $45.66
Other: $265.39
Weekly total: $527.75
Reflection: Other than having to send my half of the phone bill and car insurance payment to my father, this was a pretty normal week for me. I definitely need to work on spending less money on clothes or beauty products that I don't need, and stop spending money on food when I either bring my lunch or have food at home. This money diary has definitely inspired me to make changes to what I spend my money on. Thanks for reading it!

2021.09.23 14:37 BeeinggreenisgoodHuge spoiler alert! Sex Education Script analysis from a writers point of view

Hi everyone,
I‘d like to share a script analysis of the first three seasons and make predictions for season 4 and maybe season 5, if Netflix will give it go.
I am not a native English speaker. Please excuse possible mistakes in my post. Since I have a job, I wrote this at night in my spare time. Please go easy on me :)
There is the triangle between Otis, Maeve, and Ruby that was fully established during season 3, most likely even earlier. Otis has a sincere and deep emotional affection and connection with Maeve and vice versa. They are soul mates. They love each other! Moreover, Otis supports Maeve’s aspirations in pursuing her educational career and her feminist ideals. However, Otis has a very deep and strong physical affection with Ruby, conscious as we see in season 3 and, almost more important, subconscious as the see in season 1 and 2. Ruby clearly has that physical affection to Otis as well and has also built an emotional connection towards Otis, way before season 3. She sincerely loves him. However, he is not able yet to reciprocate her feelings. Ruby cracks Otis physical blockade from being unable to masturbate (Season 1) to become a passionate desirable lover (Season 3). Otis helps Ruby to open up with her emotions. Important to consider, Otis does not have a physical connection to Maeve. Maeve would like to build on a physical connection with Otis but he is not able to reciprocate her attempts. Maeve was not able to open up Otis on a physical level. Ruby was!
Moreover, there might be a connection between Ruby and Maeve that predates the events of season 1 and was not properly addressed in the script yet. At the beginning of season 1, episode 1, both know Aimee very well and are close to her. Both Maeve and Ruby are beautiful girls that are chased by boys on campus. However, Maeve has that cock biter stigma. In S1E5 we learn from Maeve that all of this started when she was asked by boy to give a blowjob on a party (maybe Ruby was there as well) which she declined. She was than slut shamed. I assume that Maeve was a former member of the untouchables and was somewhat kicked out by Princess Ruby (see Shakespeare below, Ola actually called Ruby and Otis in S3/E3:”The Queen and King of the untouchables”) who did not want a shadow over their public image. It also started to go down for Aimee’s membership when Ruby tells; or you can even say orders her; in S1E1 that she has to break up the Adam und that she has to eat vegan now. There is clearly a tension between Ruby and Maeve that does not originate from Otis but is later somewhat reinforced. In S2E1, Maeve exposes out loud from headmaster Groffs office the essay plagiarism starting with Ruby. When Maeve starts her speech via school speaker (“This is your famous cock biter Maeve Wiley”), you can see very briefly how Ruby turned away from looking towards Otis direction – triangle, here you go. Topic of Ruby’s plagiarized essay: Shakespeare and female empowerment = Shakespeares play “As you like it”, mentioned by Miss Sands as the assignment in class for Otis and Adam in S1E1 in the first minutes of the whole show. That Ruby paid Maeve to write an essay about the topic is especially embarrassing for Ruby as you will read further below. Maeve rather enjoys it than she calls Ruby out on that. Both know that this is an issue in that Maeve is clearly superior to Ruby. Maeve and Ruby know each other well, better than it was shown on screen yet. E.g., Aimee says to Maeve in S3: “Are you really ok with it that they [Ruby and Otis] are dating?”
As shown throughout the series, Maeve is pursuing that path of female empowerment from beginning, sometimes with (S1E5) but the most important steps without Otis help (writing winner essays, getting reenrolled in school S2E1, going to study in America S3). Otis encourages her to pursue her path but she does not dependant on him. Ruby relies heavily on her family. Her parents are facing problems since her dad has MS and her mom has to take extra shifts at work. However, they still provide very well for their only child, e.g. the convertible car and the expansive clothes. Ruby knows and appreciates that dearly as she is a caring daughter to her parents. In S3E3 her dad says to her and Otis that Ruby is such a good caring daughter and he and her mom are so delighted to see her happy with Otis. The weed dealer from Maeve’s trailer park is also there– coincidence?!? Is there only one weed dealer in town or did Ruby maybe know from a former friendship with Maeve about that guy to get her father weed against his pain since he did not get a medical prescription as she mentions…that would be another triangle. Funny possible foreshadowing in S1E1: Ruby says to the untouchables: “We are vegan now, we don’t smoke anymore”. You can say that Ruby was just acting or truly being dumb in that situation. Or she started to get dope from Maeves trailer park guy to establish a supply for her father and was hiding it from her friends by acting they should all smoke. As soon as her dad had a reliable supply, she made the untouchables quit smoking again using the motive of being vegan as a ploy. Ruby says to Otis that she is sad because her dad has MS (S2E7). In S3E1, she says right before they have sex in the closet as X-Tina and Macaroni & Cheese that she is always sad. Given her deep and sincere connection with her parents, her dad’s declining health and her mother’s pain caused by this, that makes absolutely sense. In comparison, Maeve has two siblings and is neglected by her parents. She had to learn early on to care for herself. Both Maeve and Ruby have issues to accept help (e.g. Maeve is angry that Aimee’s mom paid her trip to France in S3E5, Ruby never invited anyone to her house before Otis and also did not even tell the untouchables about her dad as she says to Otis in S3E4. In sum: Maeve did pursue the path of female empowerment without Otis and has already achieved a lot. Ruby cannot do this alone, she needed and arguably still needs Otis to help her on that path. In S3E5 there is a climax of the rivalry between Ruby and Maeve: Otis trying to talk to Ruby again after their break-up with answering that she does not hate him. It would be much easier as she did. Later that day, Maeve and Otis kiss in a romantic and quite gentle way. True genuine love, but driven be a deep emotional connection and not be an overwhelming physical attraction that you can see in the wild passionate kissing scenes between Otis and Ruby in season three. Right after the kissing scene at the gas station, you can see Ruby’s heart-broken look towards Otis out of the bus window (Olivia: “Ruby, don’t look”). During Kyle’s speech about telling somebody that you love them (#emotions, not physical attraction), Ruby looks at Otis and Otis looks at Maeve. Triangle there you go again. There did this kind of confrontation of Rotis and Motis took place? On a school trip to the battlefields of river Somme, one of the bloodiest battles of the Great War. What was the result of that battle? A stalemate, the status quo remained; however, with huge losses on both sides. At the end of season 3, Maeve was and arguably still is emotionally hurt of Otis’ relationship with Ruby. They had two emotional kisses but no sex or anything close to it. Ruby still loves Otis and still has a much deeper physical connection to Otis when Maeve does, but she and Otis broke up. This battle metaphor might even predict the final outcome: neither Maeve nor Ruby will be the only winner. There might be a truce coming in season 4 or season 5 ending up with what’s best for Maeve (soulmates, deep emotional love: resulting in best live-long friends who will trust and care for each other about everything – it is shown that Maeve can grow independent from having a Otis as a boyfriend. Main motive for Maeve: female empowerment, pursuing her educational career) and Ruby (physical affection, passionate lovers, undeniable chemistry like their bodies were made for each other – exceptional action chops by Mimi and Asa - resulting in becoming parents of a child. Ruby’ character did not grow independently, she needs Otis as a boyfriend to open up. Main motive for Ruby: Family and partner, that’s more important than her education – e.g., S3E2: Ruby spent the night with Otis. After she tells him he should leave to shave his moustache, she practices alone in the mirror on how to approach Mr Hendricks - implying that she needs an extension for an assignment).
Thus, I predict based on the script:
Motis – live-long soulmates and bff; Rotis – partners, having their own family. As a result, both will play an important role in Otis’ life and will be finally at ease with each other again.
Thus, both are endgame and the triangle is resolved. Imho, the writers want to teach us a very important lesson here: Nothing in life and in a relationship will ever be perfect!
Motis: You can be soulmates but do not have a passionate physical connection. Of course, you still can be partners, but you do not have to. You can also be friends. It is about making a choice and both options are fine! It’s up to the individuals who are involved and not on others to judge!
Rotis: You can have a deep physical attraction and an astounding chemistry but are not intellectually (meaning for example their high school grades) and/or emotionally matched, at least not yet, than it comes to the emotional part of their relationship. Despite, you can still be partners. But you do not have to. You can also choose to be friends though it would be much harder for Rotis than Motis to have a platonic relationship. Again, it is about making a choice and both options are fine!
How is this resolved: Ruby conceived a child from Otis during their passionate sex scene in S3E2. Otis obliviously did come, Ruby has for a short glimpse a quite irritated look on her face before she jumps away from him immediately getting dressed. After Ruby left, Otis looked down on himself. Moreover, there is this whole pregnancy theme around Ruby: S2E7 morning after pills, S3E2 conversation with Jean about pregnancy, S3E3 the surrogate child of the Kadashian’s (Ruby:”How bold…”), S3E4 the sex ed video from the presumably 1950s and the speech about teenage pregnancy, and Ruby being with Olivia and Anwar in the same sexual health clinic where Maeve got her abortion. However, Ruby leaves before seeing a doctor saying: “This is not the right place for me”. Foreshadowing she will keep the baby. And again: It is about making a choice and up to the individuals who are involved and not on others to judge! The show runners and actors mentioned in interviews that they make the show for a worldwide audience. Teenage pregnancy is an important issue in both developed and developing countries alike that is not publicly addressed as it should be. I want to emphasize that you can’t say that Ruby is stupid or even evil towards Otis if she decides to keep their child. It is her choice as a woman and must be respected! It is also not illogical, because Ruby will not be left alone: Otis said in S2E7 to her: “If you decide to keep the baby, I will provide for you both.” Jean said to her in their house in S3E2: “I want you to know that this is a safe place for you and Otis to discover all aspects of your relationship.” Receiving a child is an aspect of a relationship. Jean carried a child in S3 herself. Jean is very tolerant and open-minded in all terms of relationship, sexual health and related issues. Otis’ family has the financial background to provide for Ruby and her child, including a huge house to live in without rent or anything (Shakespeare’s “As you Like it” castle for the prince and princess, compare that to Maeves trailer and her being alone…). Family is the most important value for Ruby. Making her sick dad possibly happy to become a grandfather that he might never expected to happen to see anymore before he dies. The child is from Ruby’s point of view clearly a love child and not solely an accident that has to be undone. You can clearly see that Ruby’s dad does sincerely like Otis and is happy for his daughter Ruby (also being an only child and thus meaning the world for him as a father – see Ruby’s car and her expansive clothes, her dad deeply cares for her, not only on an emotional level) to be together with Otis. Maeve did not love Jackson and puts her education before family and partner. Maeve did not have a father in her life at all. Maeve’s values are her own education more than her family (leaving her sister who lives in a foster family and fugitive mom behind to go to the US to study). An abortion was a logical choice from her characters point of view. She did not even tell anyone except Otis (soul mate!) about the pregnancy or abortion, not even the child’s father Jackson. It was her choice as a woman to do so and must be respected. Ruby did tell Otis about a possible pregnancy in S2E7. She did not have to. She could get the morning after pill alone for 25 Pounds and get over it without letting anyone know. Otis also suffered from his parents’ divorce and the lack of a father figure in his life. You can argue that his own physical issues about masturbating, kissing, having sex as well as his panic attacks which are seen in S1/2 and also S3 at the gas station with Maeve are a result of his dad leaving and having strong arguments with his mom during the process of divorce (this is actually shown on screen in S1). With the self proclaimed sex king Remi (true or not doesn’t matter here, it is about the public perception), Otis might did not end up as he did and would be much more confident with his body from the beginning. Ruby cracked Otis body blockade and brought the Remi in him to the surface (#physical development). Maeve, e.g. with the sex clinic in S1, made Otis listen and care for other people. Maeve brought the Jean in him to the surface. That is also mirroring with the characters: Maeve does not have a father and somehow has at least a relation with her mom (-> parallel to dig up the traits of Otis’ mom in him). Ruby is shown as deeply caring for her dad (-> parallel to dig up the traits of Otis’ dad in him). Ruby’s mom is mentioned but not shown on screen. Thus the script and with that Otis character comes to the conclusion, that his child needs both a caring mother and a caring father in a happy and healthy relationship. This means he will be together with Ruby and not just a be visiting father paying childcare as his dad is doing. Moreover, I think that decision will be actually encouraged by Maeve. Otis and Maeve are soul mates. I argue that Maeve is the most mature character in this triangle. Since Maeve deeply cares and truly loves Otis, she will tell him that it is his choice, and however, she thinks that his choice should be fully embracing the role of a father, something Maeve did not have in her live. She does not want to happen for the child of her soul mate.
This is actually foreshadowed early on in S1E1. Miss Sands gives the class an assignment about Shakespeare’s “As you Like it”. In the play, a male character (Orlando) is deeply in love (also physically) with a woman (Rosalind). After he thought he lost her, he meets another person in another place who is called Ganymede. She is in fact Rosalind in disguise. Orlando is sad and in pain because of his feelings for Rosalind. Ganymede tells him, if he is truly genuine about all his feelings for Rosalind, she can cure his pain. Orlando is telling everything to Ganymede and they connect deeply on an emotional level. When Orlando’s brother Oliver announces his marriage to Celia, who is a dear friend of Rosalind, Orlando becomes very sad and is in pain that he can’t be with Rosalind and marry her. However, Ganymede says to Orlando that she can use magic and make Rosalind appear again that they can truly and happily together again. This magic shall work as a spell that lifts all his pain and sadness. Ganymede grants that to Orlando because he was truly pure and genuine about his feelings. Afterwards, Ganymede drops the disguise and shows herself as Rosalind, who gets happily married with Orlando.
I think the parallels are clear, I just briefly sum up: Marriage = Child birth; Orlando = Otis; Rosalind, first meaningful relationship of Orlando with passionate encounters= Ruby, first meaningful relationship of Otis (chronologically being officially boyfriend and girlfriend); Ganymede, second meaningful relationship of Orlando, but solely platonic = Maeve; brother Oliver = sister Joy; Celia in relation to brother Oliver might be = Ola in relation to sister Joy; magic = love; Ganymede lifting the spell for Oliver to be together with Rosalind = Maeve “releases” Otis from his love for her and they become live-long platonic friends so that Otis can be truly happy with Ruby in a passionate relationship.
Fun fact: There are also side plots intertwined with the main plot.
A good shepherd Silvius = Steve who is deeply in love with Phebe = Aimee. However, Phebe =Aimee is developing strong feelings for Ganymede = Maeve, even writing a love letter. Because of that Phebe =Aimee cannot be together anymore with Silvius = Steve. However, after Ganymede = Maeve lifts the spell for Orlando = Otis and drops her disguise, Phebe = Aimee get clarity and is able to happily marry Silvius = Steve.
Rosalind’s = Ruby’s father Duke Senior, with whom she has a deep connection, was sent into exile = become diagnosed with MS. When the plot concludes and Rosalind is happily married = Ruby happily a mother, her father returns from exile to stay in her life = Ruby’s father’s condition is getting better.
The person who sent Rosalind’s/ Ganymede’s = Ruby’s/ Maeve’s father into exile is a younger brother, Duke Frederick = Isaac who is also a younger brother. However, Duke Frederick = Isaac later redeems himself and tries to make up for his bad deeds what caused Rosalind’s/ Ganymede’s = Ruby’s/ Maeve’s father Duke Senior, Rosalind = Ruby, Ganymede = Maeve, and Orlando = Otis so much pain. This could fit in the way whole voicemail thing and Isaac’s development in S3, which might continue in S4 (Maeve to Isaac: “I still want you to be a part of my life.”)
And now, I make a bold but not unreasonable conclusion according to the script and Shakespeares “As you Like it”: Headmistress Hope Haddock is Ruby’s mom! Rosalind = Ruby and Ganymede = Maeve are in Shakespeare’s play the same person but in totally different places. Here in the Sex Education setting they were very close childhood friends, however; also in very different places. That means Isaac is the Duke Frederick for Maeve, and Headmistress (Hope Haddock) mirroring the Duke (Frederick) is the parallel for Ruby. The Duke is the younger brother of Duke Senior. The parallel here in Sex Education is that Hope Haddock is the wife of Ruby’s dad being younger than him. There might be even more to it: Headmistress Hope seems to have interactions and connections with both Maeve and Ruby, maybe Isaac has also a connection to Ruby. We can see in S3 that Hope tells Cal: “I am a feminist, too.” Thus, she kept her maiden name when marrying Ruby’s dad or they are not married at all and just live together as a truly loving couple that is also giving each other space. Hope has dyed her hair and definitely also style as her daughter Ruby does. Hope makes snarky comments to other students with the same tone in her voice as Ruby does. When students (Cal, Maeve, Lilly etc.) are in her office being lectured about their style and their appearances, Ruby is missing even thought she could also be a candidate to tune down her appearances. You can argue that is also a ploy from Hope (which is I think solely acted on from her and not from Ruby) to make her daughter Ruby able to outshine the other girls even more in front of Otis. Hope never lectures boys about their appearances in her office even though there are some strange looking dudes walking around on campus J
Hope especially cracks down on Maeve with open and subtle manners: Telling her to telling her to un-dye her hair, taking her nose ring, telling Maeve and Otis to stop the sex clinic that was their bonding thing, immediately demolishing the abandoned toilets after Otis told (Otis and Maeve say to each other:” That’s the end of it?” “Yeah, it had to end!”) That meant Motis lingering relationship should end. Hope encourage Maeve to apply for the American study program and even offering assistance in seeking founding seemed just to be nice. However, it is also a way to get Maeve out the country so that Ruby has Otis all alone. Hope and Maeve seemingly know each other. In their interactions you can feel some vibes (Ruby and Maeve being close childhood friends). When Hope tells Maeve that her founding for the school trip was paid anonymously, her voice and tone seems annoyed. She wanted to keep Maeve out of the field trip on the battlefield so that Ruby could go all the way on Otis in Hope’s planning. Why would she offer assistance in seeking founding for Maeves American program but do not even try to get her assistance for the attendance of an educational school trip? Looks like a contradiction to me on first sight. I seriously think that Hope did not consult with Ruby on these things as Duke Frederick did not consult with Rosalind! She just wanted the best for her daughter. As I said before, it is indicated multiple times that Ruby’s parents love her deeply and she loves them. And they are very happy that Ruby is happy with Otis. Thus, her mother goes into quite extreme measures to protect the happiness of her only child! That also resonates with Ruby having a car and fancy clothes and style because her mother Hope does too if you put that in perspective of Hopes job position and age. During the student meeting in Hopes office, there is a carrot and stick metaphor. Hope has some kind of cookies for the students whilst telling them to fall in line. Hope says the cookies were made by her husband. But if you look closely at these cookies, they have shiny glitter and some purple filling. Looks a bit like the dress Ruby was wearing when she asked Otis to become her boyfriend. Thus, Ruby made these cookies as she said by herself to Otis that she is cooking for her parents and helps them in the household. When Ruby leaves Otis after their passionate sex in S3E2, she tells him that she has to cook dinner for her dad because her mom has another shift at the hospital. I think that shift is the fertility procedure that is shown with Hope being in hospital trying to become pregnant again. “As you Like it” is all about mirroring. The same day when Hope intentionally tries to get pregnant, her daughter Ruby got pregnant unintentionally. The video in S3E4 about teenage pregnancy is not only foreshadowing Ruby future, it also shows her past with her mother being pregnant quite young, maybe also a teenager. The speaker said she had to drop out of school because of that. This is what Maeve triggers saying towards Hope: “You do not have to, you always have choice!” This is the first and I think only time there Maeve is loud and challenges Hope. Because Hope did not drop out of school when she was pregnant! She studied, became a teacher and than even a headmistress. She pursued her career despite that challenge. As a feminist herself, Maeve deeply respects that, maybe Hope is even a kind of role model (#childhood friends Ruby and Maeve) for her that her own mother never was. Despite that incident, Maeve does not necessarily agree with Hope on how she is running the school, but she treats her with respect and is polite. Compare that to some conversations with Headmaster Groff in S1/2….Moreover, in one scene, Hope is running and gets a call on her cell. The street looks a bit like the street we saw in S3E3, when Otis came to Ruby’s house….Even though Hope is headmistress and Maeve as a student on the other side of the power balance, Hope is throwing some stones in Maeve’s path, mainly to make her daughter Ruby to end up with Otis, but she did not intend to seriously bully or even destroy Maeve. Maybe also because of Ruby and Maeve being childhood friends and Maeve helping Ruby with the vagina pic incident in S1E5. That explains also Ruby going after Hope in S3E7: Mom and daughter were fighting, Ruby stood up against her own mother who she deeply loves and is deeply loved by. Ruby stood up for her fellow students and especially for Otis who was in charge of the play direction which Hope tried to interrupt. You can here Hope yelling out loud Otis’ name before she storms up to the direction room. Ruby’s love for Otis even overshadowed the love for her mother in this particular moment. Remember, this was S3E7, when people said they do not get this random scene and is totally out of context. It was actually a huge step in Ruby character development. Moreover, after this incident, Ruby was neither in school nor seen in S3E8 at all and her mom had also resigned her post. This meant they suffered a lot and feel that they lost at the end of S3E8 (#Great War symbolism). Hope resigned/lost her job. Ruby lost Otis for now whilst being pregnant with their child without even knowing it yet. She saw Motis kissing during the field trip. This caused her a lot of pain. Hope wants to be pregnant because she might think that this will keep another part of her beloved husband/Ruby’s father alive. As shown in the hospital of S3E8, Hope cannot get another child and is deeply in pain because of that. Hope and Ruby fear that their husband/partner might die soon. Thus, they want to give him some joy with another child (#family is the most important thing). You can see the pain all of them as a family are suffering. Ruby to Otis in S3E1: “I am always sad.” Thus, Hope and Ruby put on a huge shield and a fake persona when interacting in school. However, they did not lose completely if you take the Great War metaphor: Motis just kissed two times and Maeve left to the US. One of Hope’s contingency plans for her daughter Ruby worked. There is still hope her. Thus, it resonates with the outcome of the battle of river Somme. If you look at the time frame, that battle took place in 1916, the war started in 1914 and ended in 1918. Thus, we are directly in the middle of the whole drama... You can even say that Hope symbolizes the Imperial German Army. She wears a militant grey looking dress, paints the students lockers grey, and makes the students wear grey uniforms = as the Imperial German Army did! People on Reddit said that Hope acts like a dictator at school. Actually, she is the mother of Princes Ruby of the untouchables: Headmistress = Empress Hope Haddock, mirroring the German Emperor William II., supreme commander of the Imperial German Army. Her battle tactic was the same as of the Imperial German Army: Strike fast and win war almost before it actually has begun with overwhelming force on the Western front in France (# Schlieffen Plan). However, it did fail. The victory in this war will be the love of Otis. As mentioned before, there will be a truce and there will be peace.
In the end, it will turn out other than expected. Hope does not get a child, Ruby does! However, since Hope was a teenage mom herself, she will pull Ruby through that as well if Ruby decides to keep the baby. Thus, I think Ruby will make the decision about abortion or not actually without involving Otis (as Maeve did with Jackson), but Otis will finally come around and be together with Ruby. There is also a possible redemption arc for Hope: She will get Maeve a scholarship for an excellent college in the US or the UK. She might also pull strings that the students can finish their high school education as she did even though she was pregnant. Hope will pull her daughter Ruby through the differences of being a teenage mother whilst finishing her education. Hope is depicted as a strong woman. She said herself that she is a feminist. That’s also why Maeve respects her. In S3E8, after Otis was talking to his former headmistress and unbeknownst to him the mother of this in this moment ex-girlfriend Ruby and future mother in-law, Hope respectfully congratulates Otis mom with her full academic title for giving birth to a child: “Congratulations, Dr. Milbourne!”. No Mrs Millbourne or Jean. A respectful congratulations from one strong feminist woman to another. Both have pursued academic careers. Both are smart. Rotis moms share the same values and are equal in their academic status. That is a good foundation to built on Rotis having a child! Hope can pull Rotis through the academic world, Jean can provide health assistance (therapy, sex advice, and might even a medical cannabis prescription for Ruby’s dad…). Most likely, Maeve does not even know that Ruby’s dad is so seriously ill. That might be the re-bonding topic of the old childhood friends.
To put the matter in the nutshell, some viewers might think the plot of sex education is probably just a cliché romcom. No, not at all. It is actually loosely based on a well-know classic of Shakespeare where everyone of the main characters turn out to be fine despite different obstacles they had to overcome. By the way, you have multiple mentions and references of Shakespeare throughout all seasons…Ruby’s plagiarized essay about Shakespeare and female empowerment S2E1, references to Romeo and Juliet and so forth.
More Details in the script
Season 1: Swimming pool scene - Maeve pushes Otis into the swimming pool and toys with him. They have fun, enjoy their time and built on their emotional connection. He gets a booner. She does not notice and he desperately hides it be staying in the water until she left. Afterwards, as Eric suggests, Otis masturbates to “solve the problem”. However, he tries and can’t finish it. No physical connection to Maeve!
Episode 5 Bridge scene: Otis misses Eric’s birthday to help Maeve with an issue that is sincerely important for her: shaming women. Ruby is threatened that her vagina pic is exposed and will bear the scars of slut shaming forever (“these things stick and never go away”). Maeve does not even take Ruby’s money even though she would need it – Maeve’s feminist character and advocate for female empowerment is shown and develops. Moreover, there still might be the memories of the old childhood friendship between Maeve and Ruby in play plus Maeve’s sincere respect for Ruby’s mother Hope. Thus, she will not let some guy destroy her old childhood friend and with that also her role model. Later it turned out to be Olivia, Ruby’s than best female friend. There is motive of betrayal. Ruby was betrayed by Olivia. Maybe there is an incident in the past when Maeve was betrayed by Ruby that let them becoming enemies despite being former child hood friends. That is the Ruby-Maeve connection of the triangle. Maeve is very thankful that Otis helped her. They built on their emotional connection, Otis give Maeve his sweater and rolls up her sleeves while exchanging snarky remarks with each other. Nevertheless, Maeve is ready to kiss Otis but he is clearly incapable of doing so. He panics and tells her that he is a virgin. Here is also the triangle addressed: Otis knows that the vagina pic is Ruby’s and thus placing another hint of their upcoming physical attraction.
Season 1 Episode 1 bullying scene Eric and Adam: The camera focuses on Ruby looking at Otis and when looking away when he turns his look towards her. Before this scene a day earlier, Adam exposes Otis’ mom as a sex therapist sending messages to all student’s phones. In times of wlan and Google, Ruby was likely able to check out that Otis’ mom and dad wrote bestselling books and thus she assumes the Otis might have a decent financial background. That is not her main criterion deep inside her hidden self (Olivia’s and Anwar’s families seem to be ok but not rich; as well as Ruby’s own background) but it is how the other students perceive the untouchables and especially their self proclaimed queen/princess Ruby – rich, fancy, cunning, and beautiful. Aimee, as a member of the untouchables in the beginning of season one, is rich and beautiful. But her character does not fit in with the other three since she does not engage in snarky remarks and showing off fancy dresses even though she could clearly afford it. Otis does not dress fancy either or is a sex icon at the beginning of the show. However, with two sex therapists as parents, Ruby might think that there is some hidden potential (that turns out to be more than true). Moreover, it is stated late in S1E5 and S2E7 that Ruby does like to go out with nerdy boys. There are more similarities between Otis and Ruby: Both have a bff who is a non-Caucasian openly homosexual guy. Since homophobic harassment is addressed in this episode (Adam vs. Eric), it is an important issue – for both the characters and the massage that is delivered to us viewers. Ruby’s bff Olivia is also non-Caucasian. Otis’ first girlfriend Ola is non-Caucasian as well. That shows that both Ruby and Otis are tolerant and open-minded people in terms of race, sexual orientation and expression. In season two Ruby also expresses an interest in dating Rahim before knowing he was gay. He is also non-caucasian. All of this is very important! Since the first episode of the show, Ruby sees Otis as a potential member of the untouchables.
Ruby and Otis are not the cliché romance of the most popular sexy adored rich girl hooking-up the shy unnoticed poor yet smart boy. Otis is arguably the richest kid in school next to Aimee. Both of his parents wrote bestselling novels, his mom owns huge property (house and land) in an amazing spot. It is shown his parents split because of Remi’s cheating with other women. It is neither mentioned nor even inclined that he cheated Jean at their divorce with money nor bailing on Otis’ child support. This is also low key addressed in many scenes when Otis is just opening his pockets to pay for stuff (e.g., supermarket with Maeve in S1; morning after pill with Ruby S2E7, coke form the supermarket where Adam was working for Ruby [“I said fucking diet”]; vending machine with Eric in the hospital during the birth of his sister Joy) without even saying anything about money. Ruby clearly does not have such a decent financial background as we learn and see in season 3. Moreover, by the time of S2E6/7 when they have their first real encounter, Otis is already the well-known sex-kid and arguably popular since he was helping a lot of his fellow students, including Olivia (blowjob), Ruby (vagina pic), and tried to helped Anwar with the anal douche and thus, all members of the untouchables. That’s also when Ruby actually see Otis’ home.
There is a clearly visible climax in the relationship of Ruby and Otis in terms of their physical connection and Otis’ attraction towards her (conscious and subconscious), even predating season 2:
S1E1: Otis can’t masturbate. But the picture in the porn magazine has definitely more resemblance to Ruby than Maeve.
S1E5: Otis sees Ruby’s vagina pic.
S1E7: Otis stares for a brief moment at Ruby in her fancy red dress at the student ball. When Otis danced with Eric, the students formed a circle around them. Who stands clearly visible on the left side in the front row to observe: Ruby. That also symbols their connection in terms of open tolerance and acceptance for the gay and poc community.
S2E1: Otis can finally masturbate and enjoys it. In his shower, he stares multiple times on a shampoo bottle with a black cap and an orange filling. There is a young naked woman pictured on the label who resembles Ruby far more than Maeve. Otis rides his bike and has to stop in the woods to masturbate. In the same place, he rides his bike with Ruby who is comfortably hugging him in S2E7 after their talk about the morning after pills and her dad. Close to this place in the woods, they have passionate sex in the car in opening scene of S3E1. Later in S2E1, Otis masturbates in his moms car and we as viewers can actually see his cum on the car’s window. Next to the car you can see a women wearing a purple-ish dress resembling Ruby’s in S3E2 when she asks him if he wants to be her boyfriend and they passionately kiss. Moreover, that woman has a dog on her arm. Ruby has a smaller dog that resembles that dog (S3E1/2).
S2E6: Otis has sex with Ruby on his party. Early on when the party started, one of Jacksons friends said that “Ruby looks awesomely bangable tonight” whilst Ruby was just sitting alone on a chair. Otis kind of insulted Maeve and Ola, his wanna be and former girlfriend with both of whom he could not have a physical connection (unable to kiss Maeve, unable to have sex with Ola) whilst being drunk. In his speech, he said that Maeve acts like a scary girl but it is just a façade because she is quite nice in reality. Ruby oddly laughs in that scene, foreshadowing her own revelations to us viewers. There you have a similarity between Ruby and Maeve. After Maeve and Ola left, Ruby makes her move and dances with Otis. Other people at the party can see it. The next day, students chat on floor how cool that sex-kid Otis is to score Ruby, Maeve hears that as well. So, Ruby was in fact never embarrassed to be seen with Otis (as we see in the development in Season 3 as well), she was just not sure if he truly is the one and would not break her heart…Whilst being intoxicated and thus his mind clouded hampering his social and emotional feelings, his subconscious physical attraction towards a women like Ruby clicked and he made his move. As it was pointed out later by Ruby, it was consent. The script implied that it was also consent by Otis. So, it was not only Ruby who took advantage of an intoxicated shy guy. Otis had that a deep physical desire for a girl like Ruby.
S2E7: Ruby could have just left while Otis was still sleeping and sneak out of the house. But she deliberately chooses to stay until he wakes up and openly telling him about their encounter = Physical connection, affection and clear communication. She even meets his mom for the first time. Till now, the end of season three, Maeve did not meet Jean. Maeve did not have sex Otis. Ruby chooses to go with Otis to buy the morning after pill. She also could have gone alone. Ruby wants Otis to buy two cans of coke (Ruby: “I said fucking diet” lmao one of my favorite lines in the series) and goes together to the shop with him. She stands in front of the door, Adam can clearly see her and notices her.
I have already covered most of the points of S3 above. Maeve’s trip to America is a plot to device to make Motis stay platonic and, more importantly, to let Maeve pursue her educational career and her path of female empowerment (“Do not choose a boy over your education!”).
You can always see a Rotis development in E1/E7. You can always see a Motis development in E1/E8. Ruby = Rosalind was first, Ganymede = Maeve was second.
Of course, I can be completely wrong with my analysis. It is just a theory I’d would like to share. And, most importantly, as the show runners want to teach us: Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and to their own choice.
“As you Like it”
Cheers.

2021.06.25 07:07 silly_rabbit289Otis and Jean's dynamics in s3

So from the Deadline article announcing the release of s3 ,here's the link for it we know that Otis is having 'casual sex' and we also know that Jean is going to be pregnant. What kind of shift are we going to see in their relationship? Imo,it might be quite amusing to show it like the roles were reversed (from how it was in s1,Jean having casual Sex and Otis just being there),and they showed like a montage of different girls having toast in the morning with Otis and a pregnant Jean. What are your thoughts?

2021.06.19 01:52 commonEraPracticesEveryone Should Own a Bibliography

Take advice at own will. There is nothing unbiased in these letters (although I try). There are mentions of Death, Consumption and anything else I feel like writing about. This following chapter is all patchwork.
[Letter to the Redditors - June 18, 2021]
On my way to sobriety I didn't really care about much in terms of credit and recognition in this document.
Writing these notes I felt bad when I sobered up for misquoting or using writers and orators words and ideas without giving proper credit. I'd like to disclaim I've made zero capital profits from this work. This following document will be less about us as people and more about sources of inspiration or like minded creators, giving them recognition, praise or criticism.
I lost will to publish my daily notes when I watched The Good Place by Mr. Schur & Co (Netflix, YouTube ) clear headedly and I panicked. I had watched the first season a long while back and forgot about it entirely (the green has been getting more intense throughout the years). I stopped watching it the first time defeated, thinking my theology from childhood had already been created into a TV show before I could develop it. No longer chronically impaired, I've just recently rewatched the entire show this time, to make sure I'm not unintentionally stealing original ideas. It was a relief I didn't really. It seems more like I'm opposing their plot. At least I think. My position on this work has flipped from unfortunate feelings to an appreciation for the show. I enjoyed it and I'll take this piece of work art in consideration going forward.
These following notes for some time will be mostly links between dates in my notes and who the work was inspired from if I was influenced.
On this note: no publicity is bad publicity and I hope the individuals feeling annoyed reaped the benefits of publicity by opposition.
A bibliography is as important as a library. Everyone should share where their ideas come from. The Bible is a collection of books. Science is a collection of research documents. Our knowledge is collective. When we realize that 'originality is only variation' (Holbrook Jackson) a good bibliography looks better than none at all. To anyone that might've felt insulted, I sincerely apologize for a lack of citations and resources. To those that reaped the benefits from this, the shows at an intermission.
If Mr. Schur was to add another season, I welcome him to pick and choose from these notes. Please do keep in mind that this is my genuine belief system though. I believe what I'm writing and it's why this isn't an artistic or scientific publication or that I'm trying to capitalise on it. I'd wait until I've properly cited things.
We keep recommending that people listen to the lessons life offers, it's time I do the same. What an embarrassment chronic intoxication brings, Cep.
[Recognition : Professeur Charles Robin / Le Précepteur ]
June 18.
1.) For people fluent in French, Le Précepteur has been a great source of inspiration for Philosophy. Je trouve ça classe come méthode.
In my notes of May 15 speaking of Nietzsche.

All the aphorisms posted not signed (Cep) on aphorisms are from Mr. Geary's Guide to the World's Great Aphorists. Things that are short and sweet convey a stronger message. Read his books and uh, chocolate bar.
[Recognition : Rhonda Bryne ]
June 19.
1.) On June 3, I criticize The Secret. I think Mrs Bryne came up with an interesting way of formulating reinforcement based on wants that touches people who are more confident in spirituality than hard evidence. She has inspired me to take on a dualistic approach to information, the physical and the metaphysical. I'm not trying to disprove The Secret, I'm only demonstrating the psychology behind why the secret could work to non-believers. Remember folks, she knows a lot of Secrets, she knows The Greatest Secrets. [On arrête de niaiser.] And she's not shy to share them. <[She has inspired many to achieve their goals and I'd say that's half the battle right there.] If you'd like to study how spirituality can influence people, or you're interested in accomplishing your goals using the power of the universe and your mind, read her books.

[Letter to the Redditors : June 22, 2021]
I feel like further distancing myself from atheists.
The Earth and it's surroundings were created by human souls. I've failed to mention the creation of human souls on purpose.
[Notes : June 23]
  • the soul would have to be subject to evolution.
  • if we learn our lessons on earth and our lessons continue to evolve with society, if trends happen one generation before they happen on earth, if knowledge of the universe doesn't go in circles, if we continuously change and adapt, it's because all of this is true in heaven first, if heaven exists.
[Notes : June 25]
  • We aren't born skeptical. Reality makes us so.
  • Did dogs learn to enjoy fetching because of humans or did humans find uses for dogs because they naturally enjoyed fetching? <[We imprint our nature on all other animals in the kingdom.] Cats play their own games <[cats succeeded at manipulating the kings and queens of the animal kingdom. Courtship (king's court) at its finest.] and wolves, dog's ancestor, dont fetch or go running after birds or pinecones. They rather play by fighting one another. So it's not that wolves are stuck in survival mode that they won't play, they won't play like humans do. We enjoy watching people pass a ball or a puck around, slapping it with sticks or shooting/throwing/kicking it into goals.
  • We've learnt how sunlight is reflected off screens into walls by directly looking at the reflection of the sun through the mirrored surface of an object. This is how we we're able to observe the physics of light, by looking and playing with it.
  • Animals are always just as intrigued as we are with light bending. It's never nearly as engaging as a lazer, neither is it nearly as bright to stare into one. We don't shine the light refracted from a phone into animals eyes though, because that would be abusive. I don't know if that's what's stopping animals from ever understanding sources of projection. I'm not asking anyone to go shine light into your animals eyes. Animals aren't meant to understand things like us. It would only be abuse. Doing it to your coworker or classmate though is not technically abuse because if we could categorize everything as abuse it would render the term invalid and the jokes unfunny. Right? Why is it okay to prank adults when compared to animals and children? Because adults are expected to be more educated than the latter? Because adults know how to get back at us? Why are pranks things of endearment if it's not a form of highly developed bullying? These are the things I wonder.
  • I think there are simply things that we will never know if animals have the capability of understanding because we shelter them from many mishaps of life. I've seen animals on this website riding skateboards and learning all these different tasks, I've seen wilder animals know how to cross a street. Recently, gorillas are undoing traps. Stress causes progress. <[Stress accelerates progress or failure, depending on luck, attitude and energy provisions] [jn252021; yeah if we're all on earth to learn predetermined lessons wouldn't that mean people who fail are bound to?]. Distress causes cooperation. But don't cry wolf unless you see one. Spending energy helping a living thing that takes advantage is insulting to ones self. It generates a new kind of energy, one fueled with hatred instead of compassion.
  • If we give cats catnip, a psychoactive ingredient for cats, why is it unethical to drug your cat with thc in places where weed is legal? One could say that catnip is not psychoactive to humans meaning we can drug our pets as long as the products don't drug us. That's doesn't make sense though. Second reason could be that the adverse effects of catnip aren't as bad as the effects of edibles. I don't understand our relationship with catnip in relation to domesticated cats. Even if it grows in the wild, so does psylobiscin<[psilocybin, lol] mushrooms (who are the lowest on the scale for hurt to ones self and to other humans) and I don't see a single sane parent giving it to their children as a treat. I don't understand our relationship with catnip in relation to domesticated cats. <[Third reason could be because cats enter an adult state and then we give them drugs.][That or people don't see cats as children or at the same level of responsibility as having a child. Totally valid point; still an *sshole move in 2021.]
  • Wisdom is not given to the young, they have to earn it. <[If you develop your wisdom under the influence, you'll have to redevelop it once you're free.]
  • political correctness is pop-cultural. You're either with the times or you're regressive. Regressive is not meant to be a pejorative word here but usually successful people don't like to live in the past.
  • is it less ethical to stop giving a cat that's gotten used to catnip, catnip.
  • why is it not okay to test cosmetic products on animals but it's okay to drug them to watch them have zoomies?
  • I would appreciate it if debateAnAtheist would unban me so the community can roast me some more.
[Notes : June 26]
  • How can YouTube's music mixing algo ressemble a Dj even more? There's a balance between fast and slow pace songs, a mix of love and hurt songs, wordy ones and instrumentals, up to date, recent and oldies but goldies. Music taste of course. A dj also reads a room based on how people react to the music unless it's their show and their music. Id suggest it analyzes the large libraries of human made mixes (those 2-3 hour long videos) to compare views and likes. Profanity releases dopamine or offends. There are two types of listeners. Like there are those that like instrumentals and worded songs. Lyrical music requires a full attention or full détachement if you're performing another mental task. What are the highly liked mixes doing that the most obscure mixes miss? Remember that pop culture is always a leader in people's tastes, especially for people who listen to a lot of 'free' music. For the Western World, songs in major sound uplifting, sounds in minor are sadder. The BPM is just as important. Slow and fast pace music also encourage impulsivity (thanks for that research casinos). People listening to a mix want a specific genre or songs they've already heard and mostly like or that don't bother them. People have been making and listening to music to first be stimulated, then to kill boredom. Tolerance and habit creates a need for new music. But once in a while you find a song that hits the spot. There's got to be a way to calculate what's required in a song to reach a type of personality. I've had mixed feelings for YouTube's DJing skills throughout the years. The latest update in recommendations is pretty good. The time of day affects people's various moods for music. I'd start compartimentalising tastes according to music personalities. The music someone listens to writes books on their character. Of course then there are the crowd's requests.
  • I don't think people would agree to having their facial expressions or how much they move to songs to be tracked by camera so YouTube knows which songs don't jive with an individual but maybe a seperate like system associated with a hotkey. If I like this song YouTube played to me for the first time, ctrl+thisIsAwesomePlayItAgainSometimeKey. It doesn't add the video to your liked videos and doesn't tell the artist the song wants to be played again, it simply tells the Dj it can play it again and the chances it's disliked are slim.
  • on a remote device, if someone else is connected, the ctrl+likedVideos are Nulled. This is all armchair thinking and I don't really find anything annoying with the algorithm lately.
  • a single song can turn a person off from an entire mix. A single wrong comment can turn an audience against someone. A single instrument played the same way for too long will bore your crowd. <[Exception are psychedelics. That music is so strangely interesting and I can't sit through more than two minutes without some party fun you know?]
  • this is applicable in all arts; the balance between consistency and variation is a game of standing on a single wooden staff. Once everyone starts standing on their right foot, switch to your left; if half the crowd switches to their left foot, switch to a hand, once everyone is on their hands, go back to one foot and call it retro. Ouroboros.
[Notes : June 27]
  • insects are the future of protein. I'd get used to them. Low carbon footprint, feed crickets apple and cinnamon and they end up tasting like pie, hypothermia is the most humane death, easily convertible into flower. People need to get over it. If you can gain monopoly power, you should be in business.
  • you'll need to market the hell on earth out of it though. Talk about desensitization strategies.
  • lab grown meat is not vegan; where did they get the parent cells? At least one animal had to be exploited.
  • it's still too expensive to most people.
  • insect farms can be kept by anyone, anyone can become a farmer. Sell kits.
  • insects don't feel emotions like mammals do. Nor do they feel pain. They probably don't feel anything during reproduction either. <[Strictly theoretical statement.]
  • lab grown meat's carbon footprint is bad.
  • start giving cricket based products in the form of cookies and muffins to people that rely on services to eat. Once they realize it's not that bad use them as proof of concept. They will also help spread the word as they do in those communities.
  • I had high hopes for McGill when they hopped on it in 2013 what happened?
  • make alcohol out of the lipids and the carbohydrates of the insects and desensitize people through dependency. Sell it cheap enough. Chitin is quite literally sugar.
  • write stories and scripts where this is common practice and it's not strange (North American and European characters). Write some alright character casually eating this, depicted in a casual manner, give no explanations as to why.
  • make a show where vegans will get cash rewards for walking in a room full of bugs if they don't kill a single one (snipers can not participate) <[I don't think snipers are vegan] one has nothing to do with the other. You'd need human predators like mosquitoes and horse flies. They'd have to be farmed insects to avoid pathogens.
  • what are the pros for lab grown, what are the cons for insects?
  • the more oxygen in the air the bigger some insects will get. Cleaning up the environment will give you bigger insect livestock and insect livestock will help cleanup.
  • Crickets will eat anything, including their own if they become over populated. They are self regulatory and could be fed any food waste we continue to throw out because 'these apples have dents in the wrong places so people won't buy them although they are perfectly fine to eat' for example. They are omnivorous and don't have enough neurons to make out differences in aesthetics.
  • The more big insects the less energy insectivores need to hunt for filling meals, the more populated they become.
[Notes : June 28]
  • Everyone benefits from a genius. <[Crooks like to benefit from idiots.]
  • a currency is a belief in the value of a valueless object; value is in the eyes of the beholder. { Time is not a currency since it affects you, even if you don't want it to. We used to trade, a trade is fair. ]> ¿Qué? People sell their time for things that come and go. Time is the only thing that consistently runs out. We give the greatest value to fleeting things. A dead artist always sells for more. <[Trading leaves room for more tomconnery.]
[Notes : June 29]
  • when animals will realize we aren't a threat anymore, they will start retaliating. This doesn't mean we should restart exploiting animals. Expect people to say we should restart when animals aren't afraid anymore however.
  • we'll need shields that discourage animals but don't hurt them, like the concept of a forcefield. Or we could colonize all species and integrate them into society, like the Flintstones. That would take the cooperation of all of humanity though which seems like a paradox. Colonizing humans is bad in this era but it was useful in integrating different ways of life so people could somewhat mutually benefit from one another without going to war. So instead of calling it the colonization of animals, since animals don't have complex to any cultures, a project like this should be called 'The Adoption of Planet Earth'.
  • historically, people have been using scare tactics (fire, loud noises) and artificial selection (killing anything that has a chance at killing us in a set radius). We've only tried integration with wolves and wild cats, some bird species and little mammals. I think it's time we try adoption. Now that we have the internet and intricate cities, now that the animals are running out of room by our doing, I think it would be necessary to try and integrate nature back into society in order to become one with it once again.
  • the United States have guns for citizens, maybe they wouldn't be busy firing them at one another if a tiger lost its cool from time to time. Over generations the tigers could learn to cohabit with people and would learn cause and effect; I attack things, I get eaten, I wait for food to be allocated to me, I reproduce. We have an abundance of food and we're running out of species. Who controls the food and water controls the world, human or not.
]
That you come from poverty or success, it's to each individual to win all over again.
  • the problems with mentor and student relationships will be looked into for tomorrow and solutions will be offered. Coaches and mentors are great for people who learn better with one on one training, the issues lie in mentors getting gratification not from their work but from their idea of what their relationship with their student might be. <[Here's a tribute; without spoiling anything, I find Assassin's Creed Odyssey covers this topic in an interesting way. To those whom it may concern, I hope you log the player's answers for that chapter, I think it's a genius way of sniffing out underlying issues based on impulsivity.] This becomes an overwhelmingly detrimental issue when there are age gaps between both parties. Right off the bat, my main solution will be chaperoning with a degree in human resources or philosophical ethics. It would also create jobs. Both parties would pay a share for the chaperone and this third party would take on a role of insuring both parties; that the mentor has the student's best interest in mind, rather than what some mentors have been known to have in mind, and that the student doesn't develop confused feelings for their mentors. <[Which can complicate things for the mentor if the student becomes vindictive out of humiliation.] The third party would act a counsel for the student and as a witness to the training. This type of system ressembles closely to what you might see in an average martial arts studio; the senior instructors teach the entire class and the juniors oversee the progress of the class and tends to individuals in need of more attention, the whole is done within the community and never on a one on one. If the students need more practice, they are encouraged to practice with their wives/husbands or their brothers/sisters at home, provided these opponents are also taking classes. The worse problems in those communities are accidental bone breaks which results in the loss of status and the denial in the ability to practice the art within the community. Self-control is the pinnacle of reaching excellence.
[Letter to the Redditors - June 30, 2021]
'The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.' (Charles Baudelaire).
If you look at our world, if you really look at it, if you search in every crevice and every spot in it, you will always notice evil. It is easy to stay in your bubble. It is easy to say that there's nothing wrong, to cover your eyes and to rock back and forth as if the world would stop and wait for you to tie your shoe laces and get ready to run.
To notice the good in the world, you simply have to look for it. To notice the evil in the world, you only have to momentarily look away. Evil is everywhere.
But there is another important aphorism. 'True deception goes unnoticed.' (Lester Coleman). The devil will never be caught, the devil will never be seen for the Devil would be the master of deception and deception goes unnoticed. This is again another reason for the Devil not to exist. If we believe the devil not to exist, the devil has won, but if we do not see the devil's deception, it is easy to dismiss the devil's existence. The devil winning is an unfortunate thing.
This is why I believe the evil we see constantly on this planet is a simple evil. It's an old evil, worn out and repeated, boring and easily defeated. An evil that is not worth our time. An evil that should be easily stamped out like a single piece of ember. And yet it prevails. If being good is not applied every day, if good is not imposed on humankind, evil settles in and make a warm home out of us. And yet we refuse to believe in evil as a force.
If you fail to see the evil on this planet, evil being so easy to spot, I pity you when the afterlife comes, for the realm of the afterlife will reserve for you a true evil, one you never notice. The devil is not on earth if earth is hell, the devil is gone fishing, where people get pulled out of heaven before they know they've bitten a hook. The devil would be busy looking in places where people assume they are finally safe.
Hell is on earth and a garden of eden was one of the greatest tricks the devil played for us. When the devil figured out how to start filling it's realm, it convinced us we were the ones to mess up by eating the apple and we were the ones that deserved to punish ourselves and the devil blamed it on God. True deception goes unnoticed.
[Notes : June 30]
  • it interesting to listen to people talk about the after life as if it's a life that happens after this first initial one. In this document, life on earth is a form of afterlife.
  • let's take the anti-vax argument; if vaccines are a complete scam (I don't think they are but allow me to disassemble the argument). If vaccines are fake, the level of deception is far more superior than your Facebook group and there's no way you win. Even I you have all the proof about it. People that know things they shouldn't know end up in a one person car accident or something similar. True deception never goes noticed. Stop trying to fight things directly, that's suicidal. If you really think there's something up with the vaccine, don't take it and say that you're leaving your vaccine to someone else and shut up and don't take it. When the entire world dies but you, you'll be able to laugh by yourself about how right you were. But if no one dies (years after the vaccine) you'll be dead to them.
  • then there's the whole neglection of your own children issue. In the 16 hundreds if you didn't have your child's leg amputated after necrosis your child would die. Anyone saying 'no don't saw off my kid's leg' was going to kill the kid. I don't know how to make that parallel for you with vaccines so I'll let you fill in the blanks. <[This is based on a movie about pirates I bet, can't remember which.] Cutthroat Island?
  • magicians take the dark art of deception and make it a pleasant thing. It's the fact you know you're watching a magic show that makes the deception noticeable. Con artists on the other hand, are students of evil deception. Not because the art is particularly difficult, anyone can learn to lie, but because they try to take their lies to the grave. Once they get to heaven, having died never being figured out, they continue to practice these arts in heaven, bringing a lifetime of evil practice with them. Naturally, they get sent back down to earth. This is why we continue to have infamously great con artists, because the same souls keep popping back on earth from generation to generation. For this to stop, con artists have to be shown a better life on earth, so they can learn how to live in heaven. Trickery when you don't have to do it for survival anymore becomes an addiction.
  • we are the pawns the devil [tries to] use to corrupt the heavens.
  • fashion is an oxymoronic artform; you both want everyone and no one to copy it.
  • defining someone as an antivaxxer is a type of segregation; those that are with, and those that are against a certain type of cultural movement.
  • no further notes on mentorships in this document until a properly formulated argument can be brought up.

Les vrai délices dans la vie ne durent jamais longtemps.
[Notes : July 3]
  • If we educate a population that cheating people ask their partners frequently if they cheat, does a cheating population within the given population stop behaving according to the research? Meaning if the research would to be redone it would be partially invalid? Is it the fact that not everyone is aware of extents of psychology disallowing them from being calculating in their wrongdoings. Meaning people studying psychology are strictly trying to do right or do wrong when practicing the methods. This new population would neglect asking their partners if they were cheating to avoid bringing suspicion on themselves. Do we rely on people's lack of information to use it against them in the name of a greater good? Do we refuse to educate people in what is wrong in order not to encourage them into getting wrongly inspired? That's always a good question based on the more lives a piece of information could take. Does popularizing sociological or psychological research in of itself change the results of the research?
[Letter to the Redditors : July 4, 2021]
There is no Hell because there is no Hell for human souls; since I believe no one goes to Hell. Earth is the closest thing humans will ever feel to Hell. I've appropriated myself the word; like christians have appropriated themselves pagan holidays. There is no Hell off of earth and hell on earth is a form of Christian purgatory.
It would be difficult to hate pure love. A feat only accomplishable by inherently evil things. We are inherently free due to our capability of doing good or doing evil, we are not inherently evil, nor are we inherently good either. We simply are free.
[Notes : July 4]
  • I'd assume that 10 thousand human beings staring at someone in complete silence for hours would be scarier than 10 thousand people speaking their minds angrily. People feel like they need to know what you're thinking. 10 thousand people standing in complete silence, ready for action must be terrifying. Imagine convincing 10 thousand people to stay silent for hours. That, is power speaking for itself.
If your position is beautiful, vanity will give it away.

  • things in life are often on a graph curve of y=4sinX
  • this comes from a comment that was deleted. A reasoning should be formulated.
  • that'll be for another day, today is speculation day. List of upcoming behaviors in heaven rectified on earth.
[Letter to the Redditors : July 5, 2021]
Please note that this is a work of art; it should be taken with a grain of salt. No one should blindly follow anyone. If you blindly follow people on earth, you must've had no critical thinking skills in heaven (don't worry though, critical thought is something new to the heavenly community as well.)
What I am about to talk about is incredibly controversial to anyone. If it's any comfort, your troubles will help you learn your lessons all on its own, don't sweat it and keep being your best you.
I'm not giving you ways of solving your troubles, I'm just speculating things. <[Bare in mind that anyone could be a messenger, it's all about perspective, and no one's perfect, not even the author, not even the heavenly community.]
The reason for you sorrow might be as follows:
If you are rich but miserable or poor but happy; in heaven you must've not understood the proper value of money.
If you are addicted, you must've felt like nothing was dangerous in heaven, or you must've had bad coping mechanisms. <[Is it that more drugs are become available (for presc. or otherwise that's making us forget different coping mechanisms or is society making conventional coping mechanisms fail? Or do people become so aware of their own limits that it brings them down and not enough people have written on how to cope with that?]
It is everyone's responsibility of muffling down their own suffering, no one can do it for you. There is always a way. Taking the path of least resistance might be appealing, but simple solutions make for simple lessons. Simplicity loves complacency. We're born free.
Here's a list of psychological disorders. [I put this list in and followed it relatively by the letter so no one can try to diagnose me over the internet.]
If you are intellectually disabled, you might be on earth to teach someone else a life lesson, you might be a messenger. That or you need to learn how important thinking is, something you'd learn only at the end of your life.
if you are developmentally delayed, it might be because you failed to see the value in self development in a paradise that doesn't push you to improve every day.
If you have a communication disorder, your silver tongue might've hurt people in heaven.
If you are on the autistic spectrum disorder, it could be many-a-things and you might be a messenger. Or you needed to see the value in cognitive empathy.
If you have ADHD, you might've had poor self control in heaven.
If you have mania, you might've had to learn the time and place for certain moods.
If you are depressed, you must learn how to be perseverant and you must develop coping mechanisms.
If you have general anxiety, you must've had poor self confidenceSite in heaven and you have to learn to trust yourself even more and to know that failure is just free lessons.
If you have agoraphobia, you must put more trust in the three dimensions of space on earth.
If you have social anxiety you must've not trusted human souls in heaven.
[2021-07-06]
If you have a panic disorder, in heaven you must've underreacted to social cues.
If you have separation anxiety disorder, in heaven you must've been the one to give up on souls.
If you have an acute stress disorder, your sense of altered reality might stem from the fact that you relied on appearances far too long in heaven. For example, you might've thought earth was not effective at troubleshooting troubles in the soul kingdom.
If you suffer from PTSD, it's possible you brushed off the fragility of a mind in heaven.
If you have troubles with reactive attachment, it's possible that you believed parental figures when you got to earth were going to be pointless to your teachings. You might also be a messenger.
If you have dissociative amnesia, it's possible that your memory is getting uploaded to heaven because of a flaw in the calculations resulting in a request for immediate examination and recallibration. You would be a heavenly messenger instead of an earthly one.
If you have DID, it might be because you've been on earth more times than you remember, and the personalities you had have been accidentally confused. It's possible that a life lesson for you on earth is to figure out which personality you are meant to let overcome you with the most comfort. You might also be a messenger for people in the domain of psychology.
If you happen to go through a depersonalization, it might be that in heaven you didn't understand the value of bringing mind and body in as one on earth. That you thought you could just rely on the metaphysical side of things.
If you have somatic symptoms... I'm going to have to talk about you in a paragraph of your own.
If you have an anxiety of getting sick all the time, you might've spoken out against the heavenly board's decisions on the ethics of illness on earth, or you might've tried to send a message to earth about the existence of the heavens to save them from pain, which would've made lessons through pain obsolete.
If you have a conversion disorder, the heavenly community might be testing out some new updates and I can't understand why they would chose you. Maybe you volunteered.
If you have a factitious disorder, it's possible you are working for the wrong team and you might most definitely get sent back to hell.
If you are anorexic, it's possible you used to entertain yourself by judging bodily appearances in heaven.
If you are bulimic, that is a form of food addiction.
If you have a rumination disorder, that could be for many different reasons and I'll address it with somatic symptoms.
If you have pica, you might've cosplayed as a Pokémon in heaven. Just kidding. You must've eaten what was not yours to eat in heaven.
If its a binge eating disorder you are experiencing, that is a form of addiction.
If you are narcoleptic or you have troubles with hypersomnolence, you must've failed to see the value of work in heaven.
If you're an insomniac, which is trying to rest but you can't (as opposed to refusing rest), you might've been a too worked up in heaven.
If you breathing messes up your sleep, you might've tried to bother other's rest in heaven.
If you have a sort of parasomnia, this one is so common I whish I knew, the answer must be right in front of my nose.
If your legs are restless all the time, you might've stopped moving around in the time and space of the Bosom of Heaven.
If you're a kleptomaniac, you might just be a Redditor. Just kidding. You might've failed to see the value of private property for all the souls of heaven.<[Private property exists, but sharing is caring and it's also the basis of psychology. If no one shared, no one could care.]
If you love fire a little too much, you might be playing on the wrong team.
If you're intermittently explosive in your behavior, you might've not seen the value of a pokerface in heaven.
If you are oppositionally defiant, you might might be on you first earthly visit.
If you suffer from delirium or neurocognitive disorders, it can be a sign of addiction, or you might've thought your mind was a stronghold in heaven.
If you have schizophrenia, it's possible that you thought people of earth shouldn't gagolgiglobuluscu, accenticultrousness end sa, lefigoutieyen. Glabo: shlupukus-kunichoulal hallul :(. Just kidding. Now I'm acting like someone playing for the wrong team. Schizophrenia will have to be addressed with somatic symptoms.
[End of edit]
If you have a will to make art but no skill you might have to learn to speak from the heart. Sometimes I don't like anything I read or hear so I make things up for myself. Isn't that what musicians do?
Here's a prayer: To those sorting by new or rising, Upvoting appreciated content, I wish I could gently Slap a like on your entire beautiful metaphysical face. To those that let me inspire you, You don't even know how much I let it get to me In all the right ways, at just the right pace. To those serving hate, Thank you for showing us What not to follow and for those Following hate because they have to, I hope it doesn't stop you from feeling great at the end of the day. I've got stuff to finish before midnight hits, so this list will be dismissed until the sun rises again. <[Slap a like must be coined by a slapper on YouTube. 504.]

Here's an article about bullshi*ing
Turpin says just like having a sense of humor is linked to intelligence, many smart people are not funny.
Intelligent people are quite funny, only the majority of people aren't able to understand their sense of humor because humor is subjective and people rather laugh about what they understand like poop and sex, instead of understanding entire academic concepts in order to understand a joke. It's not that intelligent people aren't funny, it's mostly that their humor isn't on the same level as the general population. What comedians do, is find the middle-ground for humor, which takes intelligence or a lot of life experience to do so already. Unless you want to play the fool. The fool always gets a good laugh because everyone likes to feel better at someone else's expense and the fool gives you permission to do so, as long as you pay him or her.

There's also apparently bonus episodes if you're a member of their Youtube channel. Don't bother going on their site unless you have Chinese web payment setup or something.
The schedule is every Wednesday for members of the channel and Thursday premiere (with live chat, mainly Chinese and Vietnamese) for everyone else. English subs are not bad though it can be a bit confusing sometimes if you don't know a bit of Mandarin. There is also minimal to no (background) music due to copyright issues, only go on their site for original music since there are quite a bit of music-related scenes.
But let's touch up a summary.
Friends has the Korean/original version's Season 2 and Season 3 housemates as part of this show where they hang out as 'friends' and us viewers get to see how it goes. It's not all of them, but the ones that had some sort of story to show for now. There was an expectation that they'd somehow meet their previous housemates too, but COVID-19 restrictions and so on probably prevented it from materializing.
For the most part, it revolved mainly around Season 2 cast members, to be more specific, the unanswered air between Hyun-woo and Young-joo. The Season 3 cast, or rather Ga-heun as you wouldn't expect Min-jae, Eui-dong, and Ji-hyun to be involved in any scandals, lol, got sidelined. This is not surprising because Season 3 didn't have the insider atmosphere of Jae-ho from anybody and remember that season was so focused on like three people that everyone else also get less screen time. No biggie if you knew everyone was waiting for that Hyun-woo and Young-joo resolution. But it is kinda disappointing since Ji-hyun, Ga-heun, (Min-jae,) and Eui-dong could've had some more development even if they had somewhat boring aspects of life outside of a situation like the Heart Signal house. Like Min-jae got to hang out with Young-joo and Eui-dong with a newly introduced girl, but sometimes you kinda just hope for more.
The actual show itself was pretty chill though. In the beginning, they do follow that 'friends just chilling' concept but at the end, wow, they really got that Heart Signal vibe going. Going on dates, answering romantic questions. Hmm. It gave closure and also opened new questions.
Episode 10 had the best dating itinerary I have seen in like a long time or ever. The way it just went, wow. It's something unexpected and bittersweet between the couple since they were not Hyun-woo and Young-joo, but people that had business to tend to, lol. The way he pulled it off, the whole day, just damn. It's a standard that you can't get from the usual cohabitation/dating/romance/slice of life/et cetera reality shows since they usually have a time limit and already pre-planned activities that are similar to other pairings. Here, they somehow got the freedom and it literally went from, 'Hmm, doesn't she have a boyfriend still and she's only doing this to promote her business?' to 'Idgaf if this shit is scripted, what in the actual fuck was that, that was a next level date, whole day date.'
Okay, this is reading as languorous and that's because I really. REALLY. Want to espouse. ESPOUSE. The somehow ultimate ship of the past half decade.
But right, Shanghai Sharelife. Share Life.
This show is almost exactly like Terrace House. They really went for that cinematography and the rights were apparently sold seeing as Hana's death has only been a year and a week and a half. May 23. Sigh. Even typing about it gives me this melancholic feel. Because Tupas, Hana, and many of us Southeast Asian immigrants people know just how hard it is to be in a country outside of our islands and peninsulas, corner of Asia.
Through the airing, I hadn't been in the Terrace House subreddit or wrote much since there was a pretty noticeable tonal shift when Tupas and Hana joined in. When you grew up the same, saw the same, experienced the same, felt the same, went the same, became the same, et cetera. It's hard to let folks that are probably white, East Asian, and so on get away with the casual racist shit that spewed. Knowingly, unknowingly. Of course, some would point out that black people and so on have it worse. But us Asians are much like our reserved cousins across the Bering: practically invisible. It's only these past three or so years, probably due to Crazy Rich Asians (as expected), that we've gotten a fairly mainstream view.
Tupas got in through the connection of the famous person he drove for: Lily Franky. Hana got in through the connection of Japan's wrestling industry. They both had this sadness that is instantly recognizable if you know how it is. How the emotion of sadness exudes. How Japanese society looks at foreigners. How Japanese society treats its non-white hapas. And so on.
It was kind of a wonder the whole time, why did the casting director have so many sad people on and at the same time. They say they'd psychs on board, but how can many others that have this taut(ology) radar watch such a sad situation inevitably unfold. We know how it goes, the context was already there from the moment of their birth. There is no hindsight in institutional failure. In all the previous seasons it was a bit more spaced out, the ones that weren't solely there to promote, but to actually try something new for a while. For Tokyo 2019-2020 they opened with Shohei and Kaori, two people that could afford to experience things outside of Japan yet they still felt tethered to the expectations.
The backstory, context, is always what explains. Hana had a single busy mother and she was Southeast Asian in East Asia. That's really all you need to know, to understand why she'd acted the way she did. The isolation from COVID-19 lockdown and her career that relies on things being opened up were just the missing catalyst. People like to extrapolate, be reductive, like what I'm doing right now, but sometimes it is really just a combination of bad luck at the start.
Sometimes the cards are just dealt that way. It's up to you to call, raise, or fold.
Shanghai Sharelife begins like Terrace House: Boys and Girls in the City. The first one available on international Netflix, the one that had everyone subscribing for more.
It actually is so suspect with how similar it is to Boys and Girls in the City. We got the sad model girl (Minori), the older mature girl (Mizuki), the girl that's probably focused on her career (Yuriko). We also got the dancer that wants to communally uplift each other (Tap), the passive yet aggressive kid (Makoto), the established career boy (Uchi).
Their counterparts are not direct and there's a lot of other comparisons, but the Minori and Tap analogues stood out because it screamed the underlying: somebody fabricated this drama for tension purposes. But you know, it doesn't really matter if the director or producers nudge them instead of having an actual script, because they're not actors and it's hard to produce certain emotions or situations if you're not trained for it.
After the first three original members leave, the show becomes more dynamic again. We get a drop-dead gorgeous woman from the financial district and it's literally what you expect but at the same time, not really. If you include her literal figure, she's not below Top Five or Top Three on any of these English subbed cohabitation/dating/romance/slice of life/et cetera reality shows. If you believe you can handle a personality like hers, there is no competition. This is like when Chen Yi Chen (English teacher from Australia) was part of Heart Signal Chinese Version Season 2. Except since a lot of males don't like independent females, it ends up being what it usually does in the real world.
The visuals is what everyone judges on, no matter what consolation is presented. This is why Shanghai Sharelife feels just about the same as the original Terrace House: they got the cinematography and everything set up to make it consist of the same elements that exist in that Terrace House atmosphere.
If Terrace House had that slice of life feel that intoxicates, then there are really only two contestants.
  1. Shanghai Sharelife.
  2. Heart Signal Korean Version Season 3.
Friends would kind of be there too since they tried to have that same Season 3 (Terrace House) camerawork, but it's a different feel since they don't live with each other.
All in all, Shanghai Sharelife is essentially Terrace House as they successfully adapted the IP to Chinese characteristics. Like the in-your-face advertisements are always whatever, but they really captured that Terrace House feel. And until or if Terrace House returns, Shanghai Sharelife is the torch to look for. The next one is supposedly set in Shenzhen/Hong Kong area, so maybe at the end of this year or beginning of next year we'll be able to see a more post-COVID-19 view. Because even though China's just going business as usual for the most part, the restrictions make a lot of these shows hampered. Rare to see the expected mass venues for dates or group activities. But that's for the best until most of the country or world is vaccinated.
Let's dial it back down. Back to (p)reach the past. Huh, I've kind of burned out the feeling I had after watching Episode 5. Of Twinkle Love. After writing all that. But that was the point of it.
Because no amount of angst can surpass Episode 5. Maybe it's the timing, context, I don't know. It just hit me so hard. Especially the panelists too.
The biggest ship of all time, Titanic, hit an iceberg. There will be bigger ironclad ships, but most of them don't last outside the artificial construction of these seas. Of emotions so multiplied more than usual, it's hard to forget that it's been only been five days.
Fam, it's not like Terrace House where episodes consist of like a whole week(end) per each one. This is literally one day and one episode type of feel. Yet through blinded eyes, it feels as though it's been more.
A lot are saying it's scripted, but let us sink with the ship, please, lmao.
Youtube algorithm recommends the most useless shit on the planet 99% of the time, like videos you've already watched or marked as do not recommend, but seeing as Shanghai Sharelife is provided through YOUKU, it's only natural that 怦然心动20岁 or Twinkle Love would appear on the recommended column on the right of Youtube videos.
In the beginning, I was like, what in the hell is this over the top editing for the introduction of the housemates. The montages were exaggerated and more akin to your usual Chinese shows, so I wasn't ready since I was still waiting for Shanghai Sharelife to finish subbing all 15 episodes. Friday next week, June 11, is when ShibaSubs will probably finish it, but yo, this thing derailed me so hard.
I was looking at somebody that looked like IZ*ONE Sakura, WJSN Seola, Lovelyz Jiae, and many other Kpop idols combined into one. There was a big reason for that: plastic surgery. But her interactions with the boy that entered on top of his luggage with that ukele. Somehow, my decades of experience in the intricate logistics of universal shipping had fastened into steam-powered smokestacks. Funnel.
It was going to be a smooth ride, right? Because they were clearly two people that kinda fell in love at first sight. More so for him, but likely her too. Who knows, we all project what we want.
  1. The first to enter is a boy named Dinosaur. Yep. He's handsome, cool, and that's really all there is to it. It's only on Episode 5 that we got to see him cooking things, literally and metaphorically.
  2. The second to enter is a boy named Ah Zhou. My man enters with a messy half-permed hair. And you know how most people choose their own seats right? And how they'd sit away from the others, even if it's a girl/boy they like or the people of the same sex that they'd like to befriend? My guy literally sits beside the Dinosaur and that's when I knew this show was gold. It was 9 mins in, and this boss move intrigued the hell out of me. Because he's aloof af and so although you'd expect it to happen for meme purposes, most people don't do it because it's the first time meeting each other. I think Ah Zhou is the most comical first housemate of any show and the ones with actual balls to go for the funny situations. Romantic ones? PTSD.
  3. The third to enter is a girl named Fei Er. Now if there's anything I know about names and all that, it's that any girl that gets appellated with 'Er' or 'Xiao' are almost definitely going to be some type of girl-next-door. And fam, that is all there is to say. Doesn't matter if it's a part of their real/legal name or just a nickname. Any time a girl gets that moniker, it's always that pretty but plain girl that everybody can claim as within their league. Her side view or profile is kind of off, but direct on, she's definitely got that chill look perfected. Some of the panelists even forgot who she is because she's such a typical look, rofl. My girl sits besides Ah Zhou, across the column line, forming a 3/4 row at the back of the classroom. Her paired chair is missing its occupant and Ah Zhou jokes about Dinosaur switching over. GOLD, I tell you. She's from south of Shanghai, he's from the west. Hangzhou, Anhui. Han jeu, andwae. ONE GAME, NO. She talks to Dinosaur. We find out she goes to Shanghai for school, with Ah Zhou even more west to Wuhan, but Dinosaur coming through with an actual west, though not cardinally, Melbourne. Shanghai is close to Wuhan, Ah Zhou declares. She says otherwise. And that she'd never been.
  4. The fourth to enter is a girl named Ya Ya. She's not Ah Zhou. At first she sits in the paired table in front of the boys but then she sits diagonally to them after, in front of Fei Er, but to the right. Even right there in the beginning, you could see the difference between their way of interacting or socializing. You might think an outspoken or direct girl like Ya Ya would copy Ah Zhou and sit beside Fei Er, but nah, she follows the usual procedure of not really sitting beside each other no matter what unless necessary. If I had to describe Ya Ya visually, it's another one of those cases where even with her dyed orange/brown hair, makeup, outfit, et cetera, she just doesn't register to me. A lot of girls are like this, they have this particular look that I don't prefer or like and so they don't appear on my radar of girls to crush on, stan, support, and so on. Sometimes if the opportunity for their personality to shine is shown it changes, but most of the time it's that first impression that always decides. A lot of people like to deny that first impressions or appearances are important, but it really is where relationships start from just mere acquaintances to possibly being friends or lovers. She's definitely a pretty girl that everybody would like too though, except she has this impression of requiring more effort or maintenance. It's the way one carries themselves.
  5. The fifth to enter is a boy named Bo Bo. In several languages, the way his name sounds indicates stupidity. His sports background reinforces this. But his musical education changes it a bit. This is because of the way he presented himself. For his opening, he literally faces the yellow wall and whiteboard. He also has a beanie hat on. He actually sits beside Fei Er and that's when I knew.
  6. The sixth to enter is a girl named Ah Jie. She introduces herself instead of just sitting down. Ah Zhou tells her to stop and sit, lol. He pats the empty seat to his left because Fei Er had asked them two boys if anybody would like to sit with Ya Ya. Be bold, like Bo Bo. She's stubborn and introduces herself anyway, saying she's from the Yi ethnic group. Then she just gets rambling on and sought affirmations. Validations. That's when everyone, Dinosaur, saluted to the cliché of a high maintenance rich girl. She follows protocol and sits beside Ah Zhou but then she told him to switch, lol. That's when I knew too. She could be of mixed heritage or something, but she didn't look like your average 'Chinese/Han' girl. Normally that's kind of a plus especially in comparison to the other girls, but she just overdid it with the self-introduction and yep, pretty sure every boy then decided. She is pretty but she should've come across as less abrasive, seeing as that's especially the norm in Asia. Something about the way her eyes looked made her also like Ya Ya: not in the sight of most people. Physically and personality.
  7. The seventh to enter is a boy named Hui Hui. Now if Fei Er is the epitome of your average Chinese girl, then Hui Hui is it for the boy version, except the northern part. When we say average in the context, it's usually in the Northern/Central Chinese phenotype preferences. A lot of people from southern China are actually more Southeast Asian-looking as that's what genetics and history tell us. They're of darker skin and have certain features localized in southern China and Southeast Asia. I'd forgotten my UCAS curiosity, but he didn't come from Oxbridge or ICL. Though I recognized the name, so I searched up KCL and it's alright, just below Top Five. Normally if you're an international student, you'd vie for Oxbridge, ICL, and UCL. Northeastern is so close to Harvard and MIT yet it's far. But this isn't really a university ranking post. We here to rank people for shipping. Nevertheless, Hui Hui seems like the chill old guy as he's the oldest.
Anyway, after the Goose talked about being a memer and a linguistic pun about noise-cancelling headphones, I was like wtf, Sony WF-1000XM4 is so close to being announced or released this June 8. She then said she'd love to learn an instrument. And I was like wow. Then who followed her? Someone that wrote their name on the board. Who'd switched up from mechanical engineering to marketing, lol. Then he asks if anybody else sings and a duel was born. Duet. Duel over a girl. Duet as the bros.
Like seriously, Ah Jie ordered somebody to go up first when deciding on who to sit with on the bus. At first I felt a thorn in the heart, but then it was well and he said it was too easy and damn if I didn't think the same. THE NERVES.
As it's four boys and three girls at the start, naturally there'd be somebody by themselves. When they were on the ferry on the way to Kulangsu/Gulangyu, there was much panic to be had. The literal ship was not supporting the OTP. How can it be the one true pairing if he's busy being the tour guide? LMAO.
Then, holy hell, I forgot this, Ah Jie actually comes in-between when it was time to choose between beach, busking, or walking around. Wtf? Nani? Here, right in the middle of the first episode, we have the first major advertisement. For the sugar tea. Oh man. I'm just tearing up again. This could've been. If he had stopped choosing for his own enjoyment. Well, it is about having an ultimate field trip to finish off your undergraduate years since barely any people do postgraduate stuff like Hui Hui and Fei Er. But bruh. If he had tried here too, to choose. I can't even type anymore. I just feel sad.
At least we got Ah Jie and Fei Er being fellow shippers to produce meta ones. Right before ships were destroyed indubitably by the Heart Signal-like voice recording sessions at the end of the day. This time, instead of it just being with your homies, it's literally everyone, one by one, listening to the signals through the tablet on your hands in front of everybody. The anxiety levels there is some shit. They made it so savage for whatever reason. THEN THE RECEIVER OF THE SIGNAL ALSO HAS TO ANSWER A QUESTION FROM THE SENDER. Like what in the flying. Can't believe you have to record the message even if it's in the middle of an activity.
That head scratch though. FOR SOMETHING THAT NEVER MATERIALIZED. OH MY GOD. Imagine here too. If they had time. That night. HOLY SHIT. HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT. I am beyond upset.
Ya gotta feel for Bo Bo though. He really is the only one that can't compare. Hui Hui and Dinosaur are both from England and Australia. While Ah Zhuo's from Wuhan. Innate discrimination is what keeps doors from being opened. First-tier city, extroversion, image. Bo Bo literally the underdog and that's why Yang Yunqing or Sunnee chose him. Justice for all the Bo Bos out there, please.
After the night of no fruition for like most of them, they got to decide on whether to go on a blue or red route for the amusement park trip. For the girls, it goes as exactly as expected. Red has more exhilarating rides while blue is more laidback.
Four tickets for red, three for blue.
The triangle at first had me worried. But after that claw, it was like, yep, this is gonna be just like any other theme park or roller coaster trip with all the screaming and so on. Then after they had that bro talk at that Windseeker or swing ride and I was like yo, their relationship is just gonna balloon. Between the bro and between the pair. Panda mascots for WWF, more WWE for this triangle.
Then my man pulled up with the most determined outfit ever. WAIT HOLY FUCK, THEY HAD THE SAME OUTFIT. Different colors. I didn't even realize. When he was getting out. WTF? How can eyes be real. So then yep, the bro just lets them have the rest of the itinerary.
That's when the ship sailed. SAILED BEYOND ASTRAL PLANE.
The ultimate ship of the past five years.
And that's Episode 2.
For all shippers that don't want anything sunken, it's wise to stop there. I got my heart so confused after Episode Three (has two parts), I had to use Google Translate on the Youtube comments and then bam. I just had the whole plot spoiled to me. Like the ending couples and what happens, especially with a particular girl midway. As of Episode Five, it hasn't come true, but even the panelists are starting to see things. And yep, since some people on the net kinda spoiled it, panelists also now got spoiled and so they try to hint at certain stuff. Sigh.
Can't believe it, knew I'd get spoiled on what happened but I just had to do it because I was so baffled at how shit came to be. Did he really just want to do the activity that interests him the most despite knowing that his match is 99.99% gonna be at the place where she likes to be. Because he, like a lot of class clowns and so on, spiraled after making a mistake. Yep, he just kept beating himself up over it and that's how Episode Five fucking came true based on the rumors or spoilers. Even though nobody, not even half the panelists wanted it to be. IT WAS LITERALLY THE PAIRING THAT EVERYONE WANTED. HOW THE FUCK. Oh my God, just so teary-eyed. So sad. Damn it all.
People that are funny or bring others to happiness are the ones often vulnerable to suffering after such a 'simple' mistake. Even though she kept trying, he kept swirling around his sadness. Like holy fuck, it's so fucking ridiculous how real that shit is. If it's fucking scripted, my heart is the same: devastated. These melodramas hit so close if you've experienced the same or something similar. Much like the aforementioned situations of Hana and Tupas.
This OTP can only be described as a beautiful goodbye, daydream. Like where are you.
Literally can't even. If the spoilers are true, the rest of the time watching this will be just angsty as hell. Because the only Jerry I like is Shuhua. Though to be fair, may fair, the youthful sisterhoods, bromances, or friendships between them are so good too. They cover for each other or uplift each other if down. Damn. There needs to be more friendship variety shows though ratings will probably not compare. And a lot of friendships exist due to the same adversaries. Whether it be a different group, the producers, and so on.
Everyone was sure it was gonna be the first secured couple because their chemistry and love at first sight energies were everywhere but damn. He just kept hurting himself over a mistake that he knew he shouldn't have made. I can't get over it. He can't either. Fuck this vicarious feeling. Almost the same situation, so it hits differently.
We all want the flamingos and parrots to be geese.

2020.12.13 00:57 bicthbitchSame-Sex Friendships in Laurie Nunn’s Sex Education: A Study in Homoeroticism

Laurie Nunn’s Sex Education has repeatedly been called the best Netflix series of 2020. While filming is currently ongoing for the third season with an expected release date of summer 2021, the first two seasons provide a sensitive account of sexuality throughout the lifespan. Through the sex lives of both the adolescent and adult characters, the show normalizes consent, non-penetretrative sex, non-heteronormative sex and so much more. While sex is inherently central to Sex Education, same-sex friendships occupy an important place as well. Within the adolescents attending Moordale High School, Otis and Eric’s friendship and Maeve and Aimee’s friendship stand out as meaningful, empowering platonic relationships. Among the older adults, the endearing, burgeoning friendship between Maureen Groff and Jean Milburn drives much of their respective character developments in the second season. These same-sex friendships serve as examples of homoeroticism in mainstream Western media, destroying longstanding taboos through their vulnerability.
Otis and Eric’s friendship is arguably the most represented same-sex friendship in the show, as Otis is the main character and Eric fulfills the function of the comic relief character. While they go through a rough path towards the end of season 1, their friendship throughout the beginning of this season and throughout the entirety of season 2 provides an important example of homoeroticism. Through their frequent hugs and other displays of physical affection, the boys disregard societal norms surrounding affection in men. Their bike rides into school together serve as much-needed debriefing sessions as they untangle the complicated nature of existing as sixteen year olds. Their platonic closeness is homoerotic in its naked vulnerability. Another example of homoeroticism in the boys’ relationship is their choice of outfits for Aimee’s house party. While Eric attempts to peacock by wearing monochrome clothing, he drags Otis into mirroring his obnoxiously orange outfit by giving him his hat. Shortly after, they find themselves dancing suggestively together to the tune of one of Otis’ vinyls. Their closeness is emphasized through their matching outfits and the homoerotic nature of the dancing scene. In the following episode, Otis comes home and Eric runs into his room. They settle on Otis’ bed to play video games, their hips suggestively touching. Their level of comfort around each other is equivalent to that of brothers, joined at the hip literally and figuratively. However, their emotional openness is reminiscent of homoromantic significant others. Similarly, Maeve and Aimee’s same-sex friendship is a loving example of homoeroticism in Sex Education.
Maeve and Aimee are antipodally opposed in season 1, as Maeve is a social outcast within Moordale High School and Aimee is a member of the Untouchables, a group of popular students at the school. However, their friendship transcends class and popularity concerns. While Maeve lives in a trailer park and Aimee in a mansion, they spend a significant amount of time together in the Asbestos-containing toilet block, debriefing troubles with significant others, playing Scabby Queen and sneakily smoking cigarettes. They are vulnerable in their homoerotic emotional intimacy, trusting each other completely with many details of their private lives. One important moment in season 1 is when Aimee chooses Maeve over her popular friend group, calling herself a slag in the process. A moment of female empowerment, the girls hold hands and giggle as they walk away from the bitchy superficiality of the Untouchables. Their eye contact during this scene hints at homoeroticism within the show. Throughout season 2, the most poignant example of their homoerotic friendship is when Maeve joins the Quizheads team and Aimee proceeds to show up to every competition to support her. While Maeve is wickedly intelligent and an excellent critical thinker, Aimee struggles with academics and has trouble envisioning a future for herself. Despite their academic differences, they support each other through anything and everything. Along the same theme, when Aimee gets sexually assaulted on the bus on Maeve’s birthday, Maeve insists that they go report the sexual assault to the police, all while carrying the cake Aimee made for her birthday. Maeve standing up for Aimee when she refused initially is critically important as they achieve a level of closeness beyond that of a usual friendship. Their platonic relationship devolves into homoeroticism in this open vulnerability. Meanwhile, throughout season 2, Maureen Groff and Jean Milburn begin a friendship that is as endearing as it is life-changing.
Maureen Groff is a lonely housewife, while Jean Milburn is a hard-working sex and relationship therapist who works from home. In season 2, Maureen finds the strength to divorce her cold, cruel husband Michael, while Jean struggles with her newfound life with Jakob. Both women are quite lonely and isolated through the nature of their existences, Maureen as a housewife and Jean as a single parent and hardworking professional. Their homoerotic friendship blooms and burgeons as a consequence of this loneliness. One major moment in their friendship occurs when Jean lends a bullet vibrator to Maureen after she attends one of Jean’s trademark vagina workshops. Through this homoerotic act of sexual empowerment, Maureen rekindles the flame of her own sexuality and finds the strength to leave her pathetic husband. Later on, Jean calls Maureen to ask her if she wants to go out that same night. They find themselves getting wasted at a bar, discussing erotic fantasies and going clubbing all within the same night. Their vulnerability throughout the evening increases in intensity, culminating in an infamous dancing scene reminiscent of the one between Eric and Rahim. As they dance amidst the flashing lights and attractive younger men, Jean and Maureen share tales of their own loneliness and worries about their own romantic relationships. In the scene, the sexual tension between the two women drives the spectator to wonder if there is truly a spark between them. While they do not exchange so much as a kiss, the women do bare their heart and soul to each other. The homoerotic nature of their friendship is further reinforced as they are both newly single and ready to mingle.
Netflix’s coming-of-age drama-comedy Sex Education is a wonderful show for many reasons. Its diverse cast, representation of different sexualities and genders and sensitive account of the qualms of adolescence position it as one of the best shows produced by Netflix in the recent past. One of the main appeals of the show is the numerous homoerotic same-sex friendships shown throughout the seasons. Otis and Eric, Maeve and Aimee, Jean and Maureen all serve as reminders that sexuality thrives on a spectrum and that human relationships are complicated. Season 3 will hopefully bring more of these wonderful friendships into the show, whether through blossoming of the aforementioned friendships or through introducing new ones.

2020.12.12 16:35 LilliputianMousequestions about gender identity and being transgender you were too embarrassed to ask

Transgender people are now at the forefront of LGBTQ issues in America.
Across the country, conservative lawmakers are pushing policies that prohibit transgender people, who identify with a gender different than the one assigned to them at birth, from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity. State officials say these laws are necessary for public safety — despite no evidence that letting trans people use the bathroom for their gender identity causes public safety problems.
And recently, Trump administration revoked a guidance, originally written by the Obama administration, that told federally funded schools to not discriminate against trans students and, most controversially, let trans students use the bathroom and locker room that correspond with their gender identity. The Trump administration effectively argued that whether trans people are protected under the law should be decided at the state, not federal, level.
At the heart of the issue seems to be a widespread lack of understanding of trans issues and gender identity. After all, until a few years ago, concepts like gender identity and expression — and how they affect the hundreds of thousands of Americans who identify as transgender, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary — hardly scratched the surface of mainstream news and entertainment in any meaningful way.
Now, the issue is at the forefront of public attention. The stories of Caitlyn Jenner; Laverne Cox, a trans woman who plays Sophia on Netflix's Orange is the New Black; and Maura, a fictional trans character in the series Transparent, have all drawn greater attention to the many aspects of trans lives and what it means to identify with a gender different than the one a person was assigned at birth. And state lawmakers, notably in North Carolina, are now passing anti-LGBTQ laws that specifically target trans people — in large part as a response to the progress we've seen with LGBTQ rights.
But the increasing coverage of gender identity issues has in many ways outpaced public understanding. What does it mean to be transgender? And what would compel not just a rich and famous person like Jenner but the thousands of other less-privileged trans people across the country who face discrimination, family abandonment, and even violence to publicly come out?
The answer is both simple and complicated, and challenges some of society's deeply held — but evolving — ideas about gender.
1) Why do some people identify as transgender, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary?
Some people don't identify their gender as the sex they were assigned at birth. Some people, for example, may have been born with a penis, and designated male at birth as a result, but later realize that they identify as women and typical social standards of masculinity or femininity don't apply to them. These people are adopting forms of gender identity and expression that aren't related to their body parts or what sex a doctor decided they are at birth.
And to understand what transgender, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary mean, you have to understand what gender identity and expression are, and how both concepts differ.
Gender identity is someone's personal identification as man, woman, or a gender outside of societal norms. Gender expression refers to characteristics and behaviors a person identifies with that can be viewed as masculine, feminine, a mix of both, or neither.
The vast majority of Americans are cisgender, meaning they identify with the sex they were assigned at birth. Perhaps because of this — and because people who are not cisgender have been visible in the mainstream media only relatively recently — there's an exposure gap for many Americans. For them, it can be difficult to understand how, for instance, a person born with a vagina and raised as a woman might identify as a man.
A COMMON MISCONCEPTION IS THAT GENDER IDENTITY AND EXPRESSION ARE LINKED TO SEXUAL OR ROMANTIC ATTRACTION
Lily Carollo, a trans woman in North Carolina, said she helps cisgender people expand their views on gender identity through a thought exercise that, if successful, conveys the feeling of being identified by others as the wrong gender.
She begins by asking people if a huge sum of money would get them to physically transition to the opposite gender. Most people say no, she said, because they'd rather continue presenting themselves as the gender they were born as and identify with. 'If you go into why they're answering no, they'll usually say that it wouldn't feel right,' Carollo said. 'That's what you lock into. Take that sense and imagine if you had been born in the opposite body.'
A common misconception is that gender identity and expression are linked to sexual or romantic attraction. But a trans person can identify as a man, even though he was assigned female at birth, and be gay (attracted to other men), straight (attracted to women), bisexual, asexual (sexually attracted to no one), or attracted to a traditionally undefined gender. Trans women, gender nonconforming people, genderqueer people, and nonbinary people can also be sexually attracted to men, women, both, no one, or another preference.
Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, acknowledged that this concept can be difficult to explain. 'If somebody was living as a man dating women, and now they're living as a woman dating women, what does that mean? They were straight; now they're gay,' Keisling, a trans woman in Washington, DC, said. 'But did their sexual orientation change, or were they always attracted to women?'
This infographic, put together by Trans Student Educational Resources, helps break through some of that confusion by showing how a person's gender identity and expression fall outside characteristics like sexual orientation and sex assigned at birth:
📷
The idea behind these different forms of identity and expression is that traditional gender roles — how people are expected by society to act based on the gender assigned to them at birth — are a social construct, not a biological one. This is a concept that causes a great deal of debate in religious and conservative circles, but it's largely uncontroversial for many anthropologists who indicate that gender is flexible enough that different societies and people can construct and interpret it differently.
So transgender, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary are terms people use to describe their gender identity and expression, and how they differ from traditional societal standards and expectations.
2) Okay, so what does it mean for a person to be transgender?
Transgender — or trans — is an umbrella term, so it applies to at least 700,000 Americans who feel their internal gender identity does not match the sex they were assigned at birth. Although some research suggests people can identify as trans as children, it can take years of pain and social stigma for people to begin living their lives as the gender they identify with.
Keisling, of the National Center for Transgender Equality, knows what it's like to embrace an identity that is suppressed for a long time.
'People say things like, 'You're pretending to be a man,' or, 'You're pretending to be a woman,' she said. 'What they don't understand is I was actually pretending before.'
She explained that a widespread — and 'baffling' — myth is that trans people are somehow confused or misleading others. 'We're among the few people who are really approaching things with full integrity and full transparency,' she said. 'We're saying, 'This is who I really am.'
Going from presenting as one gender to another is called transitioning, but not all people take the same path. Some trans people are satisfied with only coming out to their friends or social circles, in what's called social transitioning. Others will medically transition, which can involve hormone therapy and multiple surgeries, to change their physical characteristics to match the gender they identify with. Even after medically transitioning, a few will keep their gender identity secret from people they encounter — sometimes to feel like they have a fresh start, to avoid discrimination, or for their own personal privacy.
'WE'RE SAYING, 'THIS IS WHO I REALLY AM'
Kortney Ziegler, a trans man in Oakland, California, described his social and medical transitions as 'a journey.'
'I use that word — journey — because it contrasts from a definitive time stamp,' he told me. 'It's not that simple for a lot of people.'
Keisling and Ziegler explained that not all trans people undergo medical treatments to change their physical traits, perhaps because they are comfortable with their bodies, don't want to go through what can be a very complicated, invasive medical procedures, or can't afford the hormone therapies and surgeries involved.
Still, medically transitioning can be a health necessity. Some — but not all — trans people experience severe gender dysphoria, a state of emotional distress caused by how someone's body or the gender they were assigned at birth conflicts with their gender identity. Dysphoria can lead to severe depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts. But this is a temporary condition that can be treated by allowing the people it affects to socially and medically transition.
Transitioning can be made much more difficult by persistent misconceptions, including the myth that trans people belong to a third gender. Emily Prince, a trans woman in Virginia, previously struggled with this while signing up for a therapy program. 'The first line of the form asked for sex with three options: male, female, and transgender,' she said. 'Right there, we already have an issue. I'm a woman. I'm not some third sex. There are some non-binary people who don't fit into male or female, but you don't describe all trans people in that way.'
Another pervasive point of misunderstanding is that trans people are all cross-dressers, drag queens, and drag kings. The LGBTQ group GLAAD helped clear this up in its organization's handy reference guide on trans issues: 'Transgender women are not cross-dressers or drag queens. Drag queens are men, typically gay men, who dress like women for the purpose of entertainment. Be aware of the differences between transgender women, cross-dressers, and drag queens. Use the term preferred by the individual.'
There's no denying that gender identity is an important part of everyone's life, but — just like with race, sex, and sexual orientation — no one wants to be stereotyped.
3) How about gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary people?
Although genderqueer, nonbinary, and gender nonconformity are expressions often associated with sexual orientation — think stereotypes of flamboyant gay men or butch lesbians — they're not intertwined.
Gender nonconforming people don't express their genders in a way society expects them to. Some gender nonconforming people might be androgynous, meaning they don't readily exhibit traits that can easily identify them as men or women. Men who exhibit feminine traits and women who express masculine characteristics may also identify as gender nonconforming.
'SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T THINK THE TERM 'MALE' OR 'FEMALE' FITS FOR THEM'
Genderqueer and nonbinary people generally don't identify or express as men or women, sometimes adopting gender roles and traits outside society's typical expectations and other times taking elements from both masculinity and femininity. Androgynous people can also fall into this category if they identify their gender as neither male nor female. (There are some nuanced differences between the terms genderqueer and nonbinary, although they are frequently used interchangeably. For more on that, check out Nonbinary.org.)
'Some people just don't think the term 'male' or 'female' fits for them,' Keisling said.
Sometimes there is an overlap between transgender, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary communities. People might identify with all, some, or none of these concepts, even if they exhibit traits attributed to these three forms of identity and expression. There are dozens of ways people identify and express themselves, so these three concepts fall far short of the full realm of possibilities.
4) How do people realize they're trans, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, or nonbinary?
Some people know and fully understand their identities when they are children.
'I always knew,' said Jordan Geddes, a trans man in Maryland. 'But I grew up and had the whole world telling me I'm wrong. At that point [as a child in the 1990s], there was no visibility whatsoever about trans issues. My parents just assumed I'm a very butch lesbian.'
A study from the TransYouth Project found that trans children as young as 5 years old respond to psychological gender-association tests, which evaluate how people view themselves within gender roles, as quickly and consistently as those who don't identify as trans.
What can lead people at such a young age to know their gender identity? Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine conducted a review of the current scientific research, and concluded that the available data suggests there's a biological link to a person's gender identity, indicating that trans people are essentially assigned genders at birth that don't match their inherent, biologically set identity.
MANY OBSTACLES CAN MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR PEOPLE TO COME OUT UNTIL LATER IN LIFE
The scientific community has increasingly come around to the evidence that it's very much possible for some people to identify with a gender different than the one assigned to them at birth without major problems.
The American Psychiatric Association, for example, now recognizes that gender identity isn't inherently linked to other mental health problems: 'Many transgender people do not experience their gender as distressing or disabling, which implies that identifying as transgender does not constitute a mental disorder. For these individuals, the significant problem is finding affordable resources, such as counseling, hormone therapy, medical procedures, and the social support necessary to freely express their gender identity and minimize discrimination. Many other obstacles may lead to distress, including a lack of acceptance within society, direct or indirect experiences with discrimination, or assault.'
A similar shift occurred in the medical community with gays and lesbians in the 1970s, when experts stopped considering homosexuality a mental illness.
As APA suggests, many obstacles — particularly discrimination and lack of knowledge about gender identity and expression — can make it difficult for trans, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary people to come out until later in life.
Ziegler of California, realized what it means to be FTM, a term for a trans man that stands for 'female to male,' early in adulthood. 'When I was in college, maybe about 18 years old, I saw a book at the LGBT center called FTM,' he said. 'I had no idea what that meant. I was like, what's FTM? I opened the book, and it changed my world. It blew my mind. Ever since, I knew it was a possibility.'
Ziegler's story demonstrates that trans people sometimes don't know how to identify when they're young, because they're never educated on gender identity or expression.
'I didn't realize what was going on with me in clear terms for a long time,' Carollo of North Carolina said. 'I knew something was up. But if I understood what was going on earlier on in my life — for example, if schools taught about sexuality and gender identity — I would have transitioned so much sooner. It took me a while to really think about myself in that manner and be sure enough I was going to transition.'
While these stories provide a small glimpse into people's experiences, they show it's impossible to assume how and when people came to terms with their gender identity and expression. Everyone's experience can vary.
5) This is a lot to take in. Can we take a break?
Yes, if only to show some of the more accurate and perhaps illustrative examples of trans people in media. In the past few years, shows like Transparent and Orange Is the New Black have put a spotlight on trans characters and raised awareness about some of the issues people in these communities often go through.
Laverne Cox, who plays Sophia in Netflix's Orange Is the New Black

, in 2014 became the first trans person to be featured on the cover of Time:

Here is one funny clip introducing the Sophia character, who has an acute sense of fashion:
While Cox has a supporting role in Orange Is the New Black, Amazon's Transparent stars Jeffrey Tambor as Maura, a divorced trans woman who is transitioning late in life. The show, which won two Golden Globes, is perhaps the most nuanced look at a trans person on television. Here is a trailer for the first season:
These shows, while phenomenal in their own right, have also played a big role in pulling back the curtains on trans issues in mainstream media. By focusing so much on trans people, the shows have introduced many Americans to a concept they may not have been familiar with in the past — much in the same way shows like Will and Grace, Queer as Folk, and Six Feet UnderDating exposed Americans to gay and lesbian people.
6) I want to know someone's gender identity, but I don't want to be offensive. Is there a polite way to ask?
📷
If there's any reasonable uncertainty, GLAAD says the best thing to do is directly ask what someone's gender identity is. Although it can be awkward for both parties, it's much better than the problems that can arise from not asking and making an assumption. And there's a good chance trans, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary people may be used to the question — and might even appreciate it, because it shows you don't want to misgender them.
Misgendering is seen as an insult within LGBTQ communities because it characterizes people in a way they don't relate to. What's worse, some opponents of LGBTQ rights purposely misgender people to show their disapproval of identifying or expressing gender in a way that doesn't heed traditional social standards. These subtle acts are viewed by many LGBTQ people as microaggressions, which, while not always overtly or purposely insulting, can act as a constant reminder to people that large segments of the population don't understand or approve of their personal identity.
'IMAGINE GOING THROUGH LIFE EVERY DAY AND HAVING SO MANY OF YOUR INTERACTIONS INVOLVE SOMEBODY TRYING TO GIVE YOU A HUG AND STEPPING ON YOUR FOOT'
'Imagine going through life every day and having so many of your interactions involve somebody trying to give you a hug and stepping on your foot while doing it,' Prince of Virginia, said. 'And then when you ask them to step off your foot, no matter how polite you are about it, they respond with, 'Oh, excuse me, I was just trying to give you a hug.'
Sometimes the problem is magnified by limitations in the English language, which relies heavily on gendered pronouns. LGBTQ communities have tried to propose various gender-neutral pronouns, but none have caught on. Some people and organizations, including Vox, might use 'they' instead of 'he' or 'she' as a gender-neutral singular pronoun.
The lack of a widely accepted gender-neutral pronoun makes it difficult for even the most well-meaning person to correctly address someone without running the risk of misgendering them. That's one of the reasons it's typically better to directly ask about a person's gender identity if there's any reasonable uncertainty.
7) What kind of hardships do trans people face?
📷
It might be difficult for most people to fully understand the many hurdles that trans, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary people deal with on a daily basis. But they face huge disparities in nearly every aspect of society.
Families shun and even disown children over their gender identity and expression. Employers and landlords may deny people jobs and homes because they don't conform to gender norms, which is legal to do under most states' laws. In social settings and media, trans people are commonly portrayed as purposely deceptive individuals and even sexual predators who want to trick or trap others into sleeping with them.
Here are a few more examples:
  • The 2011 National Transgender Discrimination Survey (NTDS) found trans and gender nonconforming people are nearly four times as likely to live in extreme poverty as the general population.
  • NTDS found 57 percent of trans and gender nonconforming people report family rejection. This rejection had precipitous effects: Trans and gender nonconforming people who are rejected by their families are nearly three times as likely to experience homelessness, 73 percent more likely to be incarcerated, and 59 percent more likely to attempt suicide, according to NTDS.
  • A 2013 report by the New York City Anti-Violence Project found trans people, particularly trans women of color, face some of the highest rates of hate violence and murder in the country.
  • A 2014 study by the Williams Institute and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention found that 46 percent of trans men and 42 percent of trans women have attempted suicide at some point in their lives, compared with 4.6 percent of the general population.
The surveys and studies above found these disparities are more pronounced among trans women of color, who can live within the convergence of transphobia, racism, and misogyny in the US. 'The bodies of trans women of color are the site of multiple forms of deeply historical oppression,' said Chase Strangio, staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union's LGBT and AIDS Project. 'That's a critical part of understanding the violence against trans people.'
In 2015, multiple transgender women, most of whom were racial minorities, were murdered. For a segment that makes up less than 1 percent of the US population, the number of deaths reached what activists referred to as 'a horrifying litany' and 'an epidemic.'

8) Why does society give people who don't follow gender norms such a hard time?
📷
As with many other issues of discrimination, the root of the problem is prejudice: the idea that people who are not cisgender are somehow inferior or wrong about how they identify.
The biggest issue, voiced by Keisling and many other trans people to me, is the mischaracterization that people who don't conform to society's expectations of gender are always trying to deceive others. It is perhaps the stereotype that underpins so many of the issues these people face in their everyday lives, making it so they have a difficult time even entering the bathroom that corresponds to their gender — much less getting a job or gaining family acceptance.
'It's creating a phobia,' Angelica Ross, CEO of TransTech Social, a company that actively trains and hires trans people to provide them with job opportunities, said.
Some of the prejudice shows itself in state policies. Bathroom bills, for example, try to stop trans people from using the restroom that matches their gender identity. The worry is that if trans people are allowed to use the bathroom for their gender identity, whether through inclusive policies or laws that ban discrimination against LGBTQ people in certain settings, men will somehow take advantage of these measures to sneak into women's bathrooms and sexually assault women.
But even if states allow trans people to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity, rape and sexual assault remain completely illegal.
Moreover, there are no reports of any sexual assaults happening as a result of states or facilities letting trans people use the bathroom for their gender identity. In two investigations, Media Matters confirmed with experts and officials in 12 states and 17 school districts with protections for LGBTQ people that they had no increases in sex crimes after they enacted LGBTQ protections.
📷
Trans people say they just want to use the correct bathroom, previously taking up the Twitter hashtag #wejustneedtopee to show their discontent with the state bills:
At a more basic level, many people don't believe that expressing or identifying with a gender different from the one designated at birth is a healthy possibility. It wasn't until 2012 that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders classified gender dysphoria as a treatable state of emotional distress instead of a permanent condition called 'gender identity disorder.' If some of the world's leading medical experts and academics didn't come to this conclusion until recently, it's not surprising the rest of the population is in many ways catching up.
LGBTQ advocates say conversations have to start at the individual level to drive broader cultural changes and understanding, similar to the effect gay, lesbian, and bisexual people had on society by coming out and showing others that their love and marriages are largely no different than those of heterosexual couples.
'People try to find these direct solutions,' Ross said. 'But it's more so a conversation about how we accept everyone's expression. … We have to focus on creating a society that fosters uniqueness and diversity, not that kills them.'
9) Is there any sign that things will get better?
📷
Mandel Ngan/Pool via Getty Images
Although polling data on trans issues is scarce, there are multiple signs of a cultural shift on gender identity and expression in the US.
The fact that trans people are now major characters in award-winning shows demonstrates that times are changing. Laverne Cox's rising fame and the popularity of shows like Transparent and Orange Is the New Black indicate that many parts of society are ready for a broader conversation about gender identity and expression.
On social media, Facebook now allows users to write in their own gender identity on profiles and also provides more than 50 predetermined options, after users and LGBTQ allies clamored for more choices.
LGBTQ advocates are also making gains in the political arena. President Barack Obama became the first president to mention trans people in a State of the Union speech this year. Many states — most recently, the very conservative and religious Utah — have passed or are considering laws that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity in the workplace and housing.
Still, there are many areas where advocates say society continues to lag behind. Some states, like North Carolina, have passed or considered anti-LGBTQ laws that ban trans people from using the bathroom for their gender identity. The federal government, which now bans several forms of health care discrimination through Obamacare, doesn't require health insurers to provide full trans-inclusive coverage. Despite some progress at the state level, most states don't ban workplace discrimination based on gender identity.Site
The nation appears to be at a transitional point on gender identity issues: While there's been some progress, there's a long way to go before trans, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, and nonbinary people have equality.

With _Élite _season 3 just airing on Netflix last Friday, many fans are still trying to get over the shock of who killed Polo? However, Polo wasn’t the only character to suffer a terrible demise. In fact, the writers managed to kill the fans’ spirit when they ended, not one, but two of their favorite ships.
RELATED: Netflix’s Élite: 10 Biggest (& Best) Romantic Gestures
This wasn’t the only surprise the writers had up their sleeves, as they also introduced two new characters who caught the eye of Nadia, Omar, and Carla. Question is – were the new romances as popular among the fans as the old ones? Keep reading to discover the 5 couples fans loved and the 5 they detested.
Updated May 29th, 2020 by Brittany Fischer: There has been some discussion about the plan for Elite moving forward. It seems that an entirely new cast of characters will be introduced in season 4, forcing fans to say goodbye to their problematic faves. Though the central mystery was a key aspect of this show’s success, fans also loved the drama resulting from the relationships in the show. It seems fitting then that as we wait to meet our new cast of characters, we reflect on all of the relationships between the teens on the show.

13 Hated: Carla & Yeray

Although Yeray was instrumental in helping Carla break free from her family’s prison, this was a relationship the fans couldn’t get on board with. One of the main reasons is because they knew that Carla’s heart wasn’t in it in the first place as she was just doing it to placate her father.
Yeray may have had a crush on Carla but it soon became clear that their relationship was just to fit in with his aesthetic lifestyle. Instead of getting to know Carla, Yeray treated her more like an accessory – constantly showering her with gifts because he believed this would make her happy. In the end, they both ended their relationship on a high note as they realized how incompatible they were for each other.

12 Loved: Christian, Carla & Polo

Before they were embroiled in a murder investigation, fans enjoyed the relationship that developed among Christian, Carla, and Polo. Beginning in season 1, Carla and Polo started a polyamorous relationship with Christian to spice up their own romance.
RELATED: Netflix’s Élite: 10 Things You Need To Know About Your Favorite Characters Ahead Of Season 3
Although it was unconventional, many fans enjoyed the relationship between the three as Christian’s influence helped Carla with her confidence and helped Polo embrace his sexuality. However, their arrangement was also full of drama as Polo’s insecurities were heightened and he ended up cheating on Carla.

11 Hated: Samuel & Rebeca

No matter how much Rebeca loved Samuel, this relationship was never going to work. Especially since Samuel’s heart was still set on Carla. Making their relationship official in season 3, Rebeca and Samuel dated for a couple of months. It looked like things were getting serious for the pair, as Rebeca briefly moved in with the waiter after she became homeless.
However, this relationship was doomed for disaster when Samuel betrayed Rebeca. To bring Nano and his mother back, Samuel agreed to bug Rebeca’s home and help the police with their investigation against her mother. As soon as Rebeca uncovered his deception, she punched him and effectively ended their relationship.

10 Loved: Nano & Marina

One of the most underrated romances on the show had to be the relationship between Nano and Marina. While fans didn’t take to Marina after the teen pit the two Dominguez brothers against one another, there was no doubt that Marina and Nano loved one another.

Beginning in season 1, Nano set out to seduce Marina to get access to her family’s wealth. However, they both ended up falling in love as Marina agreed to help Nano with his money troubles. After finding out she was pregnant, Nano and Marina were planning on starting a life together until her untimely death. Afterward, Nano continued to tell everyone about how much he loved her.

9 Hated: Malick & The Shanaa Siblings

Another developing romance the fans couldn’t stand was the romance Malick had with the two Shanaa siblings. First introduced in season 3, Malick left quite the impression on Nadia when the pair bonded over their religious beliefs. For the sake of not disappointing her family, Nadia began contemplating a future with him.
However, Nadia’s relationship with Malick came to an abrupt end when she discovered he was hooking up with her brother, Omar. This opened up another can of worms for Omar and Ander’s relationship, who were already struggling in the aftermath of Ander’s cancer diagnosis. Malick didn’t help matters either when he pressured Omar to leave Ander. Safe to say, Malick wasn’t going to be missed by anyone.

8 Loved: Nadia & Guzmán

Although fans have seen many romances come and go on Élite, three relationships proved to be a hit with fans. One of them was Guzmán and Nadia. Beginning in season 1, Guzmán and Nadia didn’t get off to the best of starts as Nadia found out he only associated with her to win a bet.
RELATED: Netflix’s Élite: 5 Reasons Why Polo Was The Villain (& 5 Why It’s Cayetana)
Nadia soon deemed Guzmán worthy of a second chance when the socialite proved he could be a good guy. The pair soon grew closer, sharing a few stolen kisses and moments whenever they could. However, Nadia refused to commit to Guzmán as their relationship clashed with her family lifestyle. Still, season 3 provided Guznadia fans with some hope when the teens confessed their love for one another, with Nadia promising to come back for Guzmán.

7 Hated: Lu & Valerio

Although Danna and Jorge have exceptional chemistry, the romance between Lu and Valerio was one you couldn’t get on board with. While most people enjoy a story about a forbidden romance, you have to draw a line at the completely immoral ones. Especially when everyone knows it would never work or be accepted.
RELATED: Elite: 5 Times We Felt Bad For Carla (& 5 Times We Hated Her)
Valerio was introduced as Lu’s wild-child, older brother in season 2, who returned to Las Encinas after being kicked out of boarding school. Immediately, it was established that the siblings had more of a familial relationship when she and Valerio hooked-up a few times, with the latter claiming he was in love with her. Their incestuous romance didn’t last very long either as it was exposed to their family and friends.

6 Hated: Samuel & Marina

Samuel and Marina were one of the first couples that fans watched develop. These two began as friends, with Samuel quickly developing a romantic attraction to Marina. The innocent and inexperienced Samuel awkwardly tried to flirt with Marina, making many missteps along the way.
It was clear that Marina didn’t feel the same way about Samuel, even trying to scare him off by sharing that she had HIV. When Samuel said he didn’t care about her HIV status, Marina tried to make herself want Samuel, resulting in one of the most awkward sex scenes in the entire series. The whole time their relationship was developing, Marina was secretly pining for his brother Nano. The entire relationship between these two can be summed up in one word: cringey.

5 Loved: Ander & Omar

Plenty More Fish In The Sea Dating Site Log

Another romance that easily wormed its way into the hearts of fans was Omar and Ander’s. Beginning in season 1, Ander and Omar’s relationship started when the pair were matched up on a dating app. The couple decided to date in secret after the grocer revealed he had yet to come out to his family.

Season 2 started tense for them as Ander was getting tired of keeping their relationship quiet. However, they soon reconciled when Omar decided to take a leap of faith, choosing to prioritize his happiness over his family’s wishes. Although they went through a rocky patch in season 3 due to Ander’s illness, the couple came out stronger when Omar chose him over New York.

4 Hated: Polo & Cayetana

Out of all the relationships on the show, the one couple who didn’t work at all was Polo and Cayetana. Starting in season 2, Las Encinas’ very own Bonnie and Clyde got together soon after Cayetana saved Polo’s life. After hanging out on several occasions, Polo and Cayetana grew closer when they uncovered each other’s criminal past.
Instead of being repulsed by Polo’s actions, Cayetana helped cover his crime by hiding the trophy in her room. As Polo made his imminent return to Las Encinas, Cayetana did all she could to ensure that her boyfriend wouldn’t be able to leave her behind. In the end, Polo decided to end their relationship after he accused her of only being interested in his social connections.

3 Hated: Cayetana & Valerio

Cayetana and Valerio didn’t share the screen for long. Though the two were flirtatious upon their first meeting, Valerio was too busy chasing his sister while Cayetana was chasing Polo. Valerio originally became involved with Cayetana while she was with Polo, joining their relationship as an equal third partner.
But it was clear that Cayetana had stronger feelings for Valerio. She even admitted that Valerio had saved their relationship and that it wouldn’t have worked without him. After Polo dumped them both, Valerio and Cayetana continued to date. Still, something never felt genuine about this relationship. And Cayetana’s character was so hated by fans that seeing her with the fan-favorite Valerio was jolting.

2 Loved: Samuel & Carla

Samuel and Carla’s relationship may have been a surprise but it was one the fans welcomed with open arms. Beginning as a game in season 2, Samuel and Carla broke their own rules when they fell in love along the way. However, their romance took a sour turn when Samuel broke her trust and almost ruined her family’s reputation.
Even though they weren’t in the best place, Samuel decided he wanted to salvage their relationship. Yet, Carla refused to throw caution to the wind when her father began to threaten Samu’s life. Sadly, after several episodes watching them exchange longing glances, Carla and Samuel decided to let each other go to work on themselves. Who knows, maybe they’ll get it right if Carla decides to come home…

1 Hated: Guzmán & Lu

When Lu and Guzmán were first introduced, they seemed perfect for each other. They were a couple that fans loved to hate, brought together by their toxicity and ignorance. But as the series progressed, these characters became more developed and nuanced. It became clear that these two characters couldn’t be more wrong for each other.
While Lu always tried to remain supportive and loyal, she often projected her own desires onto Guzmán, giving him what she thought he needed rather than what he wanted. And despite all Lu did for Guzmán, he treated her terribly. He lied to her, cheated on her, and put her through a lot of crap. Despite his treatment of her, Lu went back to Guzmán several times. It was disheartening to watch the usually forceful Lu allow herself to be so dismissed by a boy who did not deserve her. Fans were happy when this relationship finally ended for good.

2020.02.29 17:29 redtroy321My Version of Season 3 [Part 5] 'Revelations'

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
DISCLAIMER
I was planning on releasing this Sunday but maybe Saturday it will be seen by more people. Second thing, being the pillar of the show, the main focus of today was Otis-Maeve. Anyways yes, I believe part 6 will be the final one.
The next morning Jackson is suddenly woken up by some glass shattering towards the living room. As he continues to stumble trying to walk out of his room to find out what happened, he barely misses the culprit, catching the front door close. He luckily remembered to lock his bedroom door last night but turning around him, he is met by a completely trashed house. Bottles, toilet paper, spilled drinks, food everywhere (On the floor, on the walls, outside and partly on the ceiling aswell). Entering from the backyard door is Florence holding a big plastic bag and enthusiastically says 'Cleaning time!' as Jackson sighs in an exhausted manner, but with a small smile on his face as he is happy seeing his girlfriend.
Meanwhile, at the Milburn household we initially see the alarm clock on Otis' bed-side table as it is 10:58 AM in the morning. The camera slowly moves horizontally towards his bed, where we see him blankly staring at the ceiling with an exhausted face. He's still wearing the same outfit as the one of last night, even having his shoes still on. After a nearly sleepless night, he goes on his phone looking at the screen where we see a message he was in the midst of writing destined for Maeve. 'Maeve, please talk to me'. After being called by Jean from downstairs though, he isn't ready to decide whether to send it yet and leaves his phone on the bed.
During breakfast, Jean notices Otis' gloomy appearance and breaks the ice. 'I've told you multiple times now and I'll never stop saying it. You can talk to me about anything, alright darling?'. After a pause of hesitation Otis surrenders and tells her about everything that has happened, knowing that listening closely to her mother's advice would probably be the best option. 'I'm not exactly sure what happened. I think Maeve got the wrong idea seeing me and another girl from our school talking, which I've... I've had history...with. That's the only thing I've been thinking about.' says Otis, putting full trust in his mother. 'Whatever the reasoning, it is always best to give a person time and space before asking for answers. I mean, you don't really like anyone else do you?' says Jean. 'No! Of course n-...I've turned myself inside out loving her and it would be dumb of me to ruin it this easily.' says an emotionally broken Otis. 'It's easy to tell that Maeve is a smart woman. She will figure it out soon. Being clear-headed and sober helps in such. Your job is to find that right time, don't be late but don't be too early, either.' says Jean as her last words of advice.
Meanwhile, Lily is hanging out at Ola's and they're talking together about yesterdays events. The two were probably the most sober people out of everyone, so they play a huge part in solving the misunderstandings between the couples of last night. 'Partys are cursed, I guess. Even Adam and Eric had a little altercation last night.' says Ola. 'Maeve seemed fine and the next second she looked angry for blood. It's weird.' says Lily. 'She was looking at something on Isaac's phone when something clicked, I think.' says Ola as both look at each other weirdly. 'What are you doing?' asks Lily seeing Ola grabbing her jacket. 'I still feel really bad for what I did when me and Otis were together. I forced him to stop seeing Maeve and I dumped him just when he made his decision. Whatever information i know, I feel like I owe him something. Hell, he is technically my step-brother right now. He's geniunly a good guy who deserves to be happy like everyone else.' says Ola.
Hearing the doorbell ring on a Sunday, Otis is suprised to see Eric, who visibly seems like he hasn't had much sleep either. They share a long hug but instead of joining them in breakfast, Eric invites him to come with him to the junkyard. 'I know of a place to go to when you're mad and maybe we both need it right now' he says with a faint laugh, as Eric always manages to be positive in such situations. Before leaving though, Otis is briefly stopped by Jean who asks him 'Darling? I was thinking we could watch a movie like the old days this evening! Jakob's always busy with work and I'm getting bored here all alone at home' with a sarcastically sad face. Otis nods and agrees, as he is nostalgic about the 'old days' aswell. 'Yeah mum, after I sort everything out with Maeve I'll be home.' he says.
The two are easily catched up to by Lily and Ola which see them from a relatively far distance as they didn't bring their bikes. After a quick exchange of greetings they explain their unexpected visit during their walk to the junkyard. First of all, Ola marginally lightens Eric's mood informing him 'Oh, and Adam still loves you by the way, Eric. In his own words, he just needs something 'very important' to happen before he is ready to be with you again. I'm not sure what the thing is but he's dealing with it on his own, don't worry.' Eric immediately thanks Ola by giving her a quick hug and we see his usual smile partly return although he is still missing a lot of pieces of the puzzle.
The news regarding Maeve is much more hurtful though as Eric and Otis both become suddenly furious.'I knew there was something about that guy. There's just something about his demeanor. The second I saw him...' angrily says Otis as he starts turning back around. 'Otis! Where are you going?' asks Eric. 'I need to get to Maeve as early as possible, Isaac lives right next to her and I can't--.' as Otis looks away from them to hide his tears he decides to continue going back.
'Is he going to run all the way?' asks a confused Lily. 'I don't know but I miss romantic Oatcake, I really wish everything turns out fine.' says Eric as they continue their way to the junkyard. In the end, the three end up just hanging out, mostly talking about Adam's words towards him last night. Thanks to Lily's help, who has gotten to know Rahim more, they managed to decipher a part of his words when Adam said 'he ruined Rahim's life'. The trio figures out the fact that Adam was slowly starting to blame himself more and more for Rahim's misfortunes which included losing his new boyfriend for example.
Meanwhile Aimee, as a worried friend, decides to check up on Maeve, who is looking with a sad face at the essay we saw on the ending of the previous part. Immediately after Maeve opening the door Aimee tells her in a concerned tone 'I heard what happened last night but I was in the backyard so I didn't see it...'. After a little pause, Maeve invites her in and wipes some tears off and finally tells her 'I...I think I've messed up.' 'Why were you that mad at him? Otis would NEVER do anything to hurt you again! I find it so hard to believe he cheated on you.' says Aimee in an attempt to defend him. 'Well first of all my... brother randomly called me acting like everything was fine after abbandoning me again and later that night I think Isaac showed me this thing and...I have no idea what. I have no idea what to think right now!' as Maeve is still trying to exactly piece together last night's events. Aimee hugs her and decides the best option at the time was to get her mind off everything briefly, to get Maeve in the right state of mind.
Aimee succeeds in lightening Maeve's mood by challenging her to a game of Scabby Queen which she unsurprisingly gets destroyed at. After some brainstorming for activities to do Aimee brings up the idea that they should go check up on Otis. 'I can't imagine how upset he is feeling right now. You guys haven't officially broken up yet so let's go fix this mess! I'll leave you guys some privacy don't worry.' says Aimee. 'I can't fucking believe I acted like that.' says Maeve as they are ready to go.
Seeing them leaving the caravan park is Isaac as Joe asks him 'Agent 007 making his return! You scared to talk body slammer, mate? Stop being such a creep.' 'No don't worry. Maeve is going to come towards me for comfort. I don't have to be the one asking her to, thank you very much.' confidently says Isaac. 'And why's that? Didn't you say you saw her with another guy just a couple of nights ago?' says Joe laughing. Isaac doesn't respond to the provocation, as we see him only smiling.
Returning back to Otis' plan, he is seen walking down the steps towards his front door, still visibly angry, as he is eager to look for the keys of his bike to rush towards the caravan park 'Mum! I'm home! I need some help looking for my keys?!' he shouts just after entering. No one seems to be home though, as he hears nothing but silence.
Otis briefly looks around the first floor and hears a faint voice coming from the dining area 'Otis...Otis call th-. The ambulance.' Otis runs as fast as he can towards Jean, dropping his helmet he had picked up to the ground. He becomes even more freaked out, remembering he had left his phone upstairs in the bedroom and thus he is forced to run looking for the landline. Otis frantically dials the number but understandably, his movements are completely rushed and panicked, seeing a horror he had never expected to come home to. Jean was practically lying on the ground with a puddle of blood around her as she is clearly in pain. 'Mum?' Otis repeats and repeats as she starts to pass out.
We are briefly brought on a much lighter note, switching back to other character's perspectives.
Jackson's mums finally get back home and find their son and Florence weirdly dirty and tired. 'Jackson? Are you guys okay?' says one of his mums seeing him with a broom in his hand. 'Acting! We are practicing improvisation, and stuff.' says Jackson while pretending to use the broom as a microphone. Florence chuckles at him, knowing they have been cleaning for just about the whole afternoon while the mums look at them with confused faces. Jackson wasn't expecting them to return so early but fortunately Florence was there to help him out.
Later we see Eric and his family walking towards church, with a beautiful background. 'Wasn't Adam going to join us today Eric?' asks Mrs. Effiong who seems disappointed. Eric desperately tries looking for an excuse explaining his absence 'He said he forgot to tell me his mom and him were going on a trip this weekend.' The rest of the family just brushes it off and they continue on their walk.
Due to unfortunate timing, Maeve and Aimee arrive at Otis' with what seemed like an empty house since no one was answering the doorbell. While Aimee goes to sit at one of the steps of the stairs, Maeve tries calling Otis but the scene cuts, showing us Otis' phone in his bedroom which he had no time nor intention to bring with him to the hospital. After a long wait, they sadly give up, as Aimee invites Maeve to her home. 'I was on your territory playing Scabby Queen, how about a bake off? Don't worry, I'll go easy on ya!' arrogantly says Aimee to provoke her. Maeve takes one last glance at Otis' house before she decides to accept Aimee's invitation.
We are quickly brought to see Adam's situation, which we unfortunately haven't had an update on since last night. He is sitting near the entrance of the Brown's shop, clearly waiting for someone to come out. As the door of the shop suddenly opens he is disappointed, not finding the person he was looking for.
In the meantime Maeve and Aimee are cheerfully baking sweets together in her incredibly huge mansion. This is the first time where Maeve officially meets Aimee's mum, as they munch on their home-made cookies. After some comedic scenes of Aimee and her mum cheering Maeve up, it's unfortunately time for her to go home. 'We have school tomorrow and I have everything back at home, sorry Aimee but I have to go.' sadly says Maeve. 'Please be safe. I hope you and Otis figure things out cause I hate seeing you two unhappy! Anyways, adiós! I love you!' says Aimee while they share a hug.
The scene swiftly cuts to a different context now it seems. The camera is pointing towards a clock on a white and plain wall and we see it is 9 PM at night. It's a hospital room. Otis is on a chair sleeping (probably worn out because of his lack of sleep the previous night) beside the hospital bed, where we see Jean attached to a patient monitor. The only sounds we are met with are those of the air conditioner and the rythmic beeps of the monitor until the door opens. Jakob enters in, accidentally waking both of them up as he quickly going to kiss Jean on the forehead. 'I am so sorry I wasn't there Jean I'm sorry you had to go through this.' says a heartbroken Jakob, who was informed by Otis right when they arrived safely at the hospital. All three of them are at a loss of words, not knowing how to react , while the doctor calmly explains everything to them. Jean, partially because of her risky age and multiple other factors, had experienced a miscarriage. Unfortunately, Jean ignored the small pains she was feeling in her stomach belittling them as normal, while it was in fact a much more serious matter.
In the meantime Maeve is on her way back home when she looks around and realizes where she is. The bridge where she and Otis first kissed, which is lit up by a couple of faint lamplights as she feels a sudden burst of cold wind pass by. She tightly tenses up, crossing her arms closely reminiscent of when Otis gave her the jumper (S1 Ep 5) when she got cold. As Otis' house wasn't out of reach yet, Maeve tries calling him once again, but after getting no answer she looks up in desperation. Seeing the moon and the stars make her even more emotional though. Suddenly, Maeve starts hearing faint police sirens, somewhere towards the direction she was intially going to so out of curiosity she decides following them.
Back at the hospital, Jean is starting to feel better, thanks to Jakob's soup and soothing presence. She notices Otis though, sitting beside her while he is unhappily looking down. 'Darling? You really love Maeve a lot don't you?' she says. 'Don't worry about me, mum. The nurse said not to drain yourself too much!' says a concerned Otis which Jean responds to chuckling. 'Yes. Yes I do. I would never do anything to hurt her, as she has suffered enough now. It's just that this one guy framed me and-' says Otis, visibly angry at someone (Isaac). 'While it CAN be seen as selfish and unethical to pursue one while they are suffering from fresh emotional wounds, it isn't always wrong. If you BELIEVE you are in the right and ESPECIALLY if there is another person trying to get to her before you, you better be there during their darkest times...I don't ever want to see you as sad as now and I hope it's not too late yet.' says Jean, using the last of her energy. Otis listens closely to these important words and despite it being relatively late at night he decides it is time. The past 24 hours have been painful for him and he can't stand the thought of Maeve being hurt from something fabricated and untrue anymore. Otis stands up and grabs his jacket heading towards the door. 'Get well soon mum' he whispers as Jean starts falling asleep. 'Be safe. Alright Otis? I'm going to be taking care of her, don't worry.' says Jakob before he leaves.
Swiftly returning to Adam's situation he is still in the same spot where he saw him earlier. He looks up at the sky seeing it being late at night and gives up. He stands up disappointed in not being able to talk to Rahim and he is seemingly on his way back home.
Maeve is walking towards the caravans now, met by what seems like a huge commotion. The cars and motorcycles she saw parked at the entrance were strange enough, but seeing a lot of people either peeking out their caravan windows or walking towards the middle of the park was even weirder. She starts hearing continuous dog barks before finally arriving at the center of the scene. Multiple officers and police dogs are rounded up around one of the caravans which she later identifys as Isaac's. 'What is going on, sir?' Maeve asks one of the officers. 'There's been a report of severe drug posession and trafficking in the area and we narrowed it down to these fellas, miss.' as the officer points to Joe and Isaac being escorted out.
Maeve is incredulous of the officer's words but still goes to confront her 'friend'. 'What the fuck is this about Isaac?' asks a completely confused Maeve. As Isaac continues to stutter during his explanation, the officers rummaging the place start throwing out stuff from inside. Only one of the objects catch Maeve's attention though, a black and blue piece of clothing. Maeve's face starts saddening, seeing it is Otis' jumper which she weirdly couldn't find the other night. Meanwhile Isaac is clearly distraught, regretting his decision of not throwing it away. 'Why was this in y-...Is there any more fucking shit you are hiding from me, Isaac??' asks a now fully outraged Maeve. 'Are you serious, Maeve! We both know that guy isn't right for you! You see what he was like and what names he was calling you. He doesn't deserve you, Maeve. He doesn't understand people like us and what we've b-' says Isaac as he is interrupted. 'I'm afraid we only have a bit of time left before we have to go, miss. I'm sorry.' says one of the officers. Maeve ignores him continuing to confront Isaac 'Who are you to say he doesn't. You don't know shit about me or Otis...I can't believe I actually trusted you with anything at all! Answer me! Are there ANY more secrets?!'
Isaac surrenders, knowing he is in a corner he cannot escape from and after a small pause of hesitation he confesses. While looking down in embarassment, he finally takes the responsibility for everything h has done.'Yes, I wanted to be w-...to hang out with you, alone. So I tried anything I could to block him off. In multiple occasions...He sent you a voicemail aplogizing from the party at his place and I...I deleted it. The picture I showed you, was just him cheering the girl up about her father or something I...I'm sorry.' says Isaac as his last words before being escorted out.
After shaking the dirt off it, she runs back into her caravan hugging Otis' jumper all the way to her bed while crying. After a little search she manages to find a deleted 0:58 second voicemail from the same day her NSQC finals took place (a date she remembers very well, both positively and negatively)
As she presses play a song queues in (Maybe 'Crimson and Clover' the song that they put when Maeve was going towards Otis' house in S1 EP 8) and we see three different perspectives: Isaac's, drifting far away in a police car, Otis', running while on a familiar path surrounded by trees as he's lightened up by the moonlight and lastly, Maeve's. 'I know you can't answer this..right now, because...I'm watching you, on live TV! ~Maeve chuckles, still with tears rolling down her cheek~ 'But I want you to know how proud of you I am...and how unbelievably stupid I've been' as we quickly return to Otis, this time showing us his hands which are holding a bouquet of roses and a box of sweets from the shop he briskly passed by. While alternating between the couple's perspectives we hear 'You telling me you had feelings for me was...Was all I wanted to hear and...I was so caught up in trying to do the right thing. And I lost track of what that actually is...It's you... It's always been you...I love you, Maeve.'
The song slowly fades out as the voicemail finally ends, and Maeve is now covering her face with Otis' jumper in pure anger. She's furious towards Isaac for ruining their quickly flourishing relationship but also angry at herself, for blindly trusting him while easily losing faith in a fully loyal and lovely Otis.
While she is lying on her bed crying she decides to try once again. As Maeve grabs her phone about to press the button to call Otis, she hears three knocks at the caravan door. Maeve quickly stands up wiping her tears and excitedly walks towards them, looking eager to find out who it is. As her hand is on the handle about to open the door, the episode cuts off.
